Mine are still in. Pipes in the house are frozen so I have no water to boil. Sheesh. Hope it thaws soon.......

We came through well. Haven't seen the cat this morning, though. We made her two different beds and showed them both to her yesterday, but there were no signs she used them. One rabbit had removed all the hay from her box and was obviously mad that I had put it all in there. The chickens did fine, too. The only changes I made were bringing the two Buff Orpington roosters from the breeding pen I had them in by themselves, and putting them in hanging cages in the Juvenile Detention Center. I didn't think two birds would create enough body heat for their space. There are three heat lamps in the JDC, but the chick water still got ice on it. Not thick, though. It was easily broken. We schlepped hot water out to add after breaking the ice in all the bowls and tubs. I'll do that several times today, too. Pipes are good, too. We left faucets dripping last night to keep it moving. I'll do laundry today to ensure it stays moving. Might as well accomplish something while I'm not going to work!

Need to go make a "to do" list before I get lazy and stay on the computer all day!

Good morning everyone! I hope that you and your feathered friends are all ok this cold winter morning. Like RF, I have heated seats and am soooo thankful for them. I noticed that the electronic displays in my car were a little slow and jerky this morning. Kinda like me.

Those of you with Reyaunds please be careful. I am sure it is brutal for you especially.

Hi Everyone! I am a new backyard chicken enthusiast. I have my coop and run set up and almost ready to go. I would like to buy 4 Golden Comet pullets in March. I am located in western NC. My local farm store only sells baby chicks and I am not yet set up for that...maybe next year. Does anyone know of someone in my area that sells pullets or....

Hi Matt,

We live in the Hendersonville area. Just bought from Blue House Farm in Fletcher. Saskia will order chicks and raise them to the age you want. We placed our order 3 days ago. She was very nice and helpful. You can schedule a time to meet her and look thru the farm. So far, we've been very pleased!

Hey folks, glad to hear everyone made it through relatively unscathed. We put down extra straw in the houses and added some piles to the yard for them to cuddle in during the day. The crazy ducks would go for an ice swim and then curl up in the straw piles. Had went out around 11pm last night and checked everyone and even though I knew in my mind they would be fine I still had wierd dreams of frozen chickens falling off of perches. So not a good night of sleep. But they were all perfectly fine and we put farmers friend on their combs, waddles, and ears before we released them this morning. Will just repeat everything (but hopefully sleep better tonight) tomorrow morning to keep them comfy and safe. I keep telling myself that it is cold but it could be much worse; it could be snowing.

We ended up with two faucets freezing; one at the house and one at the barn. Didn't break the pipes and they are thawed and better protected now. Our barn cat, Sherbert, showed up just fine. I guess she found a good place in the shop. There's a cat hole into and lots of places she can snug down in there. But all the critters are doing fine. The chickens enjoyed the day, as the wind was not blowing at all today. Even the young ones ventured outside.

I got my loom warped back up after taking the last project off yesterday. Also worked on a hat I'm knitting for a friend, all in between taking water out to various areas and keeping wood on the fire. Made a good crock pot of lamb stew while I was at it. It's back to work tomorrow, though. Sigh.
