They're saying right now it's going to be 1/2" of ice then covered with 5-8" of snow

Went to give everyone water this morning & had 2 quail run up to me to be picked up. I panicked that they somehow got out of one of the new cages, but they didn't, so they came back from running away. I guess a warm cage sounds a lot better than being loose in a bunch of snow!

I think most the snow is supposed to come overnight tonight, we'll have to be digging out to our coops tomorrow morning!

Oh, my mom called me this morning & said the today show opened this morning with a segment recorded in downtown Fayetteville about this "once in a generation" snow storm sweeping the south.

We've had it before when I was a kid, so it's not once in a generation

True, I think they were more referring to New Orleans & the deep south getting hit. But they're calling for over a foot on the beaches. A few years ago Christmas weekend we got a good 6" here. But I don't think Mississippi, Louisiana type areas usually get any. I grew up north of Baltimore so snow didn't make news unless we were getting a 3ft blizzard

Dutch......how is the blue frizz OE doing?

Hey I'm looking for some advice from all you winter chicken experts!
If we really do get a 1/2" of ice, do you all have suggestions for coop doors freezing shut?
Both of mine open right along the ground (not like a lifted door).
I know I'm going to have to shovel our around it, but didn't know if you guys did anything to keep doors from freezing shut. Like should I try to go out and buy salt or anything to put around the door or is that a bad idea because the chickens will probably peck at the salt?

She's doing good!
She has really pretty blue silver colored legs which I hadn't seen on a chicken before.
She's gotten a lot of red in her face lately so she should be laying pretty soon.
She's pretty interesting looking-- she's really small like a bantam & a big fluff ball of frizzle feathers.
I can't wait to see what color eggs I get, the kids really like her, her name is Olivia

I'm waiting for snow! I want snow! If it's going to be frozen so I have to schlep water, then I want something pretty to look at! SNOW!

Plus, I want my Thursday classes cancelled.
