Sad news today. I had to kill my Lavendar Silkie today. Last night I notice she was wandering around the yard by herself. Others wouldn't be around her. So I caught her really easy, usually runs when we get near her. Well I noticed she smelled awful. Tried to look and see if i could find anything in her feathers, nothing. Well when i got home today, i was going to give her a bath. Picked her up and my hand got wet feeling, so I flipped her over and saw where she somehow got her belly cut on something. Real bad. Flies were already swarming. I don't know if it was cut last night as I didn't see anything. Guess with this heat lately, doesn't take long for flies to swarm. So I decied it best to send her to the happy chicken grounds where she won't have to suffer anymore. Haven't told my DD yet. Not gonna be fun nite. I will try and post a pic later. I feel like a bad dad cause I didn't see this sooner.
RIP Lavendar.

I don't have people come to my house and it's not for bio-security reasons, it's flat out for security! Before I had ever even sold a bird or gave an egg away, I had two silkie hens stolen and they tried to get my buff laced polish rooster. Needless to say the birds have been under lock and key for years.

Hey guys I need your opinion on something real quick--

Recently started selling my extra eggs and now to the point where I can't keep up.

In the meantime I was thinking selling a mixed 18 pack-- 1 dozen quail eggs, 3 turkey eggs, and 3 duck eggs. Mostly because I only get 1 turkey and 1 duck egg a day and don't want to sell eggs more than a few days old.
What do you think is a fair price for that???
I'm selling chicken eggs at $2.50 a dozen and spending 50 cents on cartons, so no profit there, but felt like I needed to start somewhere to get started.
I think $2.50 for 18 of the other eggs would be too cheap as I'd definitely be losing money on it, but I don't want to be outrageous.

Please tell me what you think!!!

Had "Something" undetermined l my huge black English Orpington rooster, Elliot, today. The biggest bird on the place. Lots of easier pickings out there, but it had to go for my big guy. First bird I've lost in months. I'm bummed.

Good morning folks

Wish we could get a little rain.........the grass is starting to
dry out and it won't be long before the bushes and trees
start to suffer. Some of my crepe myrtles have dying branches
in them from bad rain years and one has all but died. Watering
helps but a day a week of good gentle rain is what's needed.
Of course if I can find a way to keep the mud from getting to
the chickens that would be great too.

hope everyone has a good day
