I was starting to think my hens were sick or something. I haven't gotten an egg in 2 weeks. I'm realizing how many roosters I have and how much feed I'm buying. I'm gonna have to butcher some more roos even though they're not big enough. I spend $40 on feed a month and I'm not even getting any eggs this month!
Just wait until chicken math catches up with you, and you are buying 300 lbs or more a week!

It has been cooler temps and so nice lately that we almost
needed a blanket on the bed last night. It has been good for
getting some yard work done and the birds have been a little
less stressed. The amount of eggs is still less than usual though
but in this heat I can't blame them.

hope everyone has a good day

I have a fan in my Juvenile Detention Center and Grow-out, but can't run electricity all the way out to layer houses. However, they were set up to catch the breeze, and the chickens do take advantage of that. Plus...as hot as it seems, we really haven't had a hot summer. Temps haven't broken 100 yet!

The humidity isn't as bad as it has been in years past. I have lived
through worse. This summer has been rather nice so far......JMHO.

Hey everyone I had a hard decision to make yesterday. This stray dog had her pups at my house a few weeks ago. :-/ well then she moved em. We couldn't find them until we heard them screaming when it rained so hard Tuesday night. So I rescued them. Mama dog wasn't around. Well I kept them in a box and called a reuse group about them. They came out and got the pups. And left a huge trap to try and get mama dog. No luck there. She is a wild dog. She doesn't like people and I really think if cornered she'd bite. :( she's been here for like 2 years and we leave food out for her but she still doesn't trust us. I really want to catch her so she can e reunited with her pups but at the same time I'd feel guilty because she's the only dog around that accepts my dog with spinabifida. They lay in the field and swim in the pond and run and play together. Non of my dogs want anything to do with him. I just feel so bad about it. I didn't want the puppies or anything but I did cry when they took them. I already have 6 dogs and a bunch of chickens and 3 cats so I don't need anymore mouths to feed. Did I do the right thing? And should I give up on trying to catch mama dog?

Yes you did the right thing. Mama dog needs to be caught, so she can get vaccinated and spay. There are rescue groups that would work with her to make her adoptable. She deserves a loving family.

Well since you are already feeding her, I would suggest you catch her and have the rescue group fix her so she doesn't have more puppies and then offer to take her back so she can keep your other dog company.

That's the thing if they catch her they are taking her to Connecticut with the puppies. They couldn't find a foster home here for them but are connected to other states and they were the first to contact them. I don't think she will ever be people friendly. And I don't want them to put her down either. The puppies will b fine I'm sure. They were 6 weeks old. Plenty old enough to be able to be taken from her. It just aggravates me. I haven't seen her all day today or my dog either. I'm sure they're off galavanting somewhere on the farm. I know she's going to end up having more puppies if I don't get her fixed but I don't want to risk them not bringing her back.
