North Carolina

Hey everyone I had a hard decision to make yesterday. This stray dog had her pups at my house a few weeks ago. :-/ well then she moved em. We couldn't find them until we heard them screaming when it rained so hard Tuesday night. So I rescued them. Mama dog wasn't around. Well I kept them in a box and called a reuse group about them. They came out and got the pups. And left a huge trap to try and get mama dog. No luck there. She is a wild dog. She doesn't like people and I really think if cornered she'd bite.

she's been here for like 2 years and we leave food out for her but she still doesn't trust us. I really want to catch her so she can e reunited with her pups but at the same time I'd feel guilty because she's the only dog around that accepts my dog with spinabifida. They lay in the field and swim in the pond and run and play together. Non of my dogs want anything to do with him. I just feel so bad about it. I didn't want the puppies or anything but I did cry when they took them. I already have 6 dogs and a bunch of chickens and 3 cats so I don't need anymore mouths to feed. Did I do the right thing? And should I give up on trying to catch mama dog?
Think about it this way. If she bites a person or an animal, she WILL get put down for not having a rabies vaccine. She really does need to be spayed and vaccinated. She's also likely to have heartworm after being on her own for so long. She may seem really wild now, but she might have a chance at leading a normal happy life as someone's pet. I think catching her is a very good idea. Let the rescue group do their thing and let them know that she is very welcome to come back to your farm after her veterinary care if she is deemed unadoptable.

Get up with one of these places that catches stray "barn" cats and fixes them, then releases them back to the property. I know anymore a lot of the rescues don't bother with dogs or cats that have diseases like heartworms and all since there are so many homeless animals and not much donations anymore.

Try checking out Snap NC, they have facebook and web pages.

We have a lady cat that someone dropped off a few years ago and
she had kittens.....of course.......so we got her and the kittens and
have kept them in the house so she wouldn't have anymore kittens
and hoping to tame them down. They are at a point where they will
let you pet them....sometimes...... but you can not pick them up and
a cage sends them into fits. We want to be able to let them outside
to help with any rodent problems so I called Snap-NC. They told me
to get a live trap for each and bring them in the trap. They understand
these may bite thus why they are in the traps. Once they are spayed
they will be put back into the traps and we bring them home. This may
be the best way for you. Snap is also giving the vaccines while the cats
are being spayed. They also cut the price $25 for feral cats.

For all the times that my kids don't listen to me, I am proud to say that they did listen to one thing at least. My oldest screamed that she found a snake and it had a triangle head. When I got there, I seen that she had found a copper head. Got it removed and relocated safely. I must admit that I'm proud she didn't just pick it up, which she has done with a hognose without knowing what kind of snake it was. Chock that one up for the parenting side.

Are there any other equestrians out there? I'm just curious, because we are trying to sell a horse. :) Just wondering if there would be any chicken/horse lovers here? I would much rather have him go to one of you guys than some stranger on Craigslist.

His name is Cassidy and he is really sweet and is a lovely trail horse. He just doesn't fit in quite right with our business.

Good morning folks

I can't believe how fast the summer is going by.
It is getting close for the kids to go back to school
and me back to work. The birds are slow on eggs
and it won't be long before the yard will look like
a big pillow fight went on.

DST..... I hope you find him a good home. If we
didn't have too many ourselves, I'd give him a home
and a grandbaby to love on him. It would help to know
how tall he is. Good luck.

hope everyone has a good day

Sorry about your $40. Like RF says...that's a couple bags of feed. I learned a long time ago to be cautious lending money. But then my innate trust of people comes back up and I do it again. And learn the lesson again, most times. Sometimes someone holds true to my trust....but not usually.
