HONEY
HONEY
HONEY
It is the best healing substance I have found and works even better when combined with crushed comfrey leaves but I know not many people have comfrey plants in their yards.
Honey has worked wonders for my chickens with puncture wounds from dog attacks. No infection, heals very fast. With chickens I do not even cover the wound, just apply honey on the freshly cleaned wound and isolate the bird for a couple of days.

Good luck with your dog! Hope he recovers fast!!

X2. I've used slippery elm on horses with fantastic results, too.

If I had a canoe, I'm pretty sure the husband would have found a way to put a hole in it like he did the hose that I use to pump out Lake Ramirez! After being totally soaked to the bone doing chores, I went to hook up the pump only to find out that he not only hit the hose with the mower once, but twice, and to top it off, he ran off with the extra hoses I had. Needless to say, I'll be taking a hose to be patched and the hubby starts swimming to his truck/trailer or he comes up with my other hoses. Hopefully tomorrow is a drier day. :/

This was around the corner from me yesterday. It's supposed to go back down tonight, but we have more rain coming. ...

Lucky, I'm jealous - still waiting....patiently. Good for you. How old are your birds?

Well, that depends, I don't think it was a cochin or silkie egg, because it was a little too big, I think. And they are at five months. If it was the Wyandotte, I don't know, the person I got Queenie from didn't know when she was hatched.

But it may be a silkie egg, why you ask? Well remember, I had four silkies, three of which I had seen crow? Well I gave this really nice family who were picking up three ducks, two of the roosters. They didn't have chickens and thought these guys were cute, and I knew that they would give them a fantastic home. But the mom called me last night to tell me she had an egg. SO, I have learned a valuable lesson, don't make decisions too early.

Speaking of early decisions. I also raised 9 ducks, so I could get a couple more hens for my drake to keep him company and out of trouble. These ducks were from Metzers, and pre-sexed as hens. I sold 7 of them, last week at 6 weeks old, and kept two to go with my drake and his other two lady friends. Well Mike, my drake, is rejecting one of the young ducks. Every time it comes near the other four, he chases it away. Does this mean it isn't a hen?

Hey y'all! I've been so busy with getting the kids into a routine with school, that I've not had time to get on and update about Speckles.

She's doing better! Still a bit wobbly when she stands up too fast or tries to move too quickly, but getting more and more steady every day. Yesterday she even laid an egg! I'm hoping it was nothing more than a really bad concussion. Fingers crossed that she continues to improve.

Also, there is a new feed store near me that just opened recently, so I stopped in today to check things out. They carry Carolina Pride brand feed. Does anyone use this brand? Is it any good? I'm currently feeding NatureWise by Nutrena, and price-wise it's comparable to what I'm currently feeding (except the chick feed is a few dollars more and is medicated. I prefer to feed non-medicated chick starter), so if it's a good brand to feed, I may start going there instead. Any input would be great!

I think we use their horse feed....

Hi all! Gators boo boos are much better. I bought some stuff from tractor supply called emt gel. Seems to be working and he seems to be feeling better because he keeps escaping from his cage and running aroun as if he's screaming im free! Lol. Also been keeping honey on it at night after a quick rinse with witch hazel. Going to start on the new coop today. Loads and loads of pallets and tin. Yey! At least my babies will thank me when hey re not knee deep in crap and mud next time it rains for 3 days! ;) if anyone has any advice on making this new coop or any plans for pallets let me know. Sen a pic or whatever you gotta do. This is my first try with a pallet coop. Made a brooder out of pallets befor...not a coop to house 13 chickens. Any advice here would be greatly appreciated y'all! Have a nice day!
