Welcome new flockers

After a long and beautiful day of repairing pens, feeding the hogs, and moving hens.....I've come to the conclusion...I need more ROOSTERS!

I need Splash anything full size and Ameracaunas of any color. I could also use about 5 more Barred Rock hens.

I have a couple of Lavender Ameraucana Cockerels that are being culled from the breeding program. But, I am over 3 hrs away.

Well its 21 days later and they are hatching. Six are out, one is pecking and 8 are standing by. This is fun, thanks!

So cute!! Broody hens are so much fun. I'm so happy your hatch is going well!

Good morning folks

What a nice weekend we had. I have been having some
vitamin D issues again and this weekend was so nice that
I managed to get outside some. I think I need more weekend
days and less work days......problem with that is it would
mean less paycheck. Lots of the outbuildings here need to
be rebuilt and that means money...........
ain't that how it always goes?

If you are seriously not going to eat him, I have an EE cockerel I could part with- he'll be a year old this summer and is large.

Thanks jt.  I'm enjoying everything on here so far.  What part of Nash county?  I'm near Hickory but I pass through Nashville and Rocky Mount on 64 quite a few times every year.

Welcome to all the new folks! Best page on BYC!!!

Since the pullets are starting to lay, I've decided to add to their protection from predators (who are targeting the young, ignorant girls) by moving one of the adult roos in with them. There are 52 girls in there, plus this guy is pretty gentle anyway. And he needs to move out from where he is. The girls he is with need to be rotated through breeder pens for test crosses. It'll go much faster if they aren't with a roo. So win-win for all!

It's been a lovely day today. I was so grateful to be able to be home today and take care of chores. Got a big load of feed in this morning, and have gotten other things done today. After spending the weekend working on predator deterrents for the pullet pasture, having the extra day was great!
