Boy, I am swimming in eggs. My blue egg silkies, polish, and sumatras have kicked it in gear.

Blue egg Silkies?? Oooohhh! Sounds fancy! Are they Silkie standard other than the egg color?

Hallowoakfarm I do hope you get tog better soon.  I might need to get up with you for some chicks. I'm looing for OE and Welles.  :)
Thanks for the well-wishes! I'm doing fine now!

I have both OEs and Wellies of assorted ages. I'm actually having trouble getting male Wellies to hatch! Lots of pullets. The OEs aren't sexable quite yet, but the oldest are getting close. PM me if you are interested and we can discuss. :)

I was thinking about it, but I'm running a 5k that morning with my son, and I'm not sure I'll have time to shower and drive the hour out there in time for it to be worth being there..... Now, if someone was going to be bringing Golden Cuckoo Maran chicks or eggs, I might be convinced to go. :)

The shows usually run most of the day. As long as you get to them by
noon or so, you can see most all the birds. The judging is usually over
by 2 or so.....depending on the size of the show. Owners can not take
home the birds until judging is over so if you can get there by early
afternoon you should be able to see the birds. Hope you can go see
the show and enjoy it.

So dumb question--
I'm (well my husband) is killing off 16 2 month old birds that I'm 99% positive are roosters (including 2 out 3 sexed pullet Easter Eggers I got with a friend who wanted them at TSC but only wanted 3 and minimum was 6).

I know when they're older and you process you can tell by the organs, can you tell on young birds if they're male or female? My husband does the gutting/skinning and I break down the meat so I've never seen the organs.

(And I realize there is next to no meat on 2 month old birds, but I don't have the space to grow them out another few months or the money to keep feeding them, I just have to make a couple pots of stock base)

Don't feel bad about butchering young cockerels. I butcher ALL of my cull cockerels the first time they crow, usually before 3 months. I also butcher to save money on feed and free up space. We eat a lot of chicken & dumplings.

If you post pictures maybe we can help you pick out any pullets.
