North Carolina

Waynesville out west! Curious what breeds if f egg layers will do well here? im not very high in the mountains only about 2800ft or so.
Probably some cold-tolerant breeds
I personally really like Orpingtons they're very cold hardy and wonderful layers, they are also very friendly. :p
My flock used to have Buff Orpingtons, Jubilee Orpingtons, (they're expensive and very rare so dont let your money go to waste on them @_@) and Lavender Orpingtons. Right now though, my flock consists of Silver Laced Orpingtons, and Isabel Orpingtons. (They're both also rare and expensive so xD)
Other then Orpingtons I dont really know that much about other breeds :v

Good morning fellow chicken enthusiasts! Moved from the great PNW to SE North Carolina a few months ago. Needless to say, i purchased a home and am going to be looking to get my back yard flock around Early December time frame (if i can). My question to all of you, is do you know of any breeders or hatcheries that would have chicks that time of year? i could even work with hatching eggs if i had to. I know that if i ship day olds that late in the year from somewhere else in the country i have to order more than i want, so thats not an option. I'm looking for somewhere that would allow me to pick a few up at hatchery. Any advice would be appreciated, thank you!

Uh, you could do some research if you want. I'd check craigslist and eBay for hatching eggs because unfortunately, I don't know of anyone who does. Good luck on your search though!
