Do they have a heat lamp ? Are they are cold ??? Or maybe you are "a big bad monster"

My chicks climb over top of each other to escape the monster hand, once they get used to me they peck at my rings & bracelets.

Hi everyone! Crazy weekend, huh!? Hope you and all your families are ok! I quickly caught up and noticed I didn't see a post from HT - anyone heard from her? Hope she's ok!

We just got power back a couple hours ago. We are so lucky - the tornado touched down just a block away. Scary! We all hid in my pantry! I have tons of family in Bertie County where we took the hardest hit but luckily they're all ok. I was able to borrow a generator for the chicks and the eggs, but we were without power for about 5 hours. I was so scared my eggs weren't going to make it. But guess what!? I HAVE A PIP!!!!! I was sure they were gonners. They are beautiful blue Ameraucana eggs from MissD'Uccle here on BYC so I was extra excited about them. I hope they're all ok, but at least I now have faith in one! I decided to try keeping them in the incubator instead of the homemade hatcher this time which I think helped keep in warmth better than the hatcher would've, so that was lucky. I also had a first aid heat pack thingy that I opened and wrapped in a burp cloth and put on top of the eggs. Hopefully that was enough for them! The chicks are doing so great and getting big. We've been giving them ground rolled oats out of our hands - even my husband - and now they jump all over us as soon as we open the brooder. They are too cute. Oh, and my Cochin egg did not make it. I just knew it wouldn't after none of that group did. First I candled and saw nothing. Then I finally did the float test and saw no movement. I eventually did a (partial) eggtopsy but lost heart once I got part of the way through. I don't know why it didn't hatch. It wasn't shrink-wrapped, it was in the right position, seemed at least mostly fully developed (as far as I could tell anyway) but hadn't absorbed any yolk or anything. I guess it just wasn't meant to be.

We went in there with a flash light...didn't think about being able to scare them!! I thought something might have snuck in and didn't sleep a wink. They were all fine this morning. We also put a few sticks in there so they could roost if they wanted, they weren't on any but at least I was trying.

I went in there this morning with the flashlight and I think I woke them up because they all started running around and headed towards the feeder - Mr. Jeremy Fisher my BO roo leading the flock.

Thanks everyone for helping me to feel better. I don't think I will rest easy until we fix the doors that were slightly damaged by the storms...until then I just may be a fretter...then again this is my first set of "chickiepoos" (as the DH calls them) so maybe I will fret constantly until I am an expert??

Glad to hear most of you and your families are okay from the storms with little damage. If anyone needs help, please don't hesitate to ask!! Have a great morning everyone.
