Congratulations on your hatch SCM. Patience is a virtue...try to be patient. (Although I am only repeating what GA & BHep have said..hehe)

hoping all works out for the best

Gavin - Thank you again for enabling me into a new breed of fretting. I thought I was a fretter over the DD, but now I think I fret over the chickiepoos more.

I am enjoying watching their personalities come out. Jeremy Fisher is my favorite so far!! For a rooster, he is super sweet and always watches where I go. When I sit down on the other side of the "cage" he comes up and cocks his head this way and that to get a good look at me (I seriously think he's looking at me like, "Hey, where's my treat?" but we won't go there). One of the black ones (the smallest of the females - we call her Mopsy) has been ruffling her feathers at everyone. It's kind of funny. She has apparently staked a claim on this one spot in the corner and will shoo everyone else away from it. The two LO won't let me near them, but the roo seems to be warming up to my treats. So far just Jeremy & Jemima Puddleduck (the BO) and Cotton-Tail (the Black roo) have warmed up enough to take treats from my hands!! NOW I completely understand how this can be an addiction...and I am happy to say, I am ADDICTED!! Anyway, thank you ever so much!! Sorry to hear you and DW aren't feeling well.
fl.gif
praying for a quick recovery. I'm sure this "lovely" weather we've had the past few days hasn't helped any. OOhh...congratulations on your broody being a momma.

Can't wait to see pictures!!

Glad to know I am not the only big scary torch wielding "monster" around.
lau.gif
I sure hope you taught those duckies a lesson!! Teach them to try to brave the elements on their own. Haha. Hope everyone is accounted for!! Is it too soon for me to start wondering which hen will go broody and when??
lau.gif
I think I want more chickens!! Good thing our barn is bigger than what we need!!

Hope those without power are doing well. I have two chores I am hoping to get done today. The big one...digging the holes for the run posts!! For now though, I'm off to mow the lawn before DD wakes up. I have orders to stay clear of the house. DH called me to tell me "I don't want you mowing over the chick weed growing up by the house, we need that for your chickens." Hmm...MY chickens?? He's been caught sneaking in and out of the barn to "check" on them several times yesterday. I'll leave out the fact that he keeps bringing them crickets and grasshoppers with an occasional spider (which of course I do NOT mind. I abhor spiders). Seems he's just as addicted/infected as I am!!
lau.gif
Got to love it! Have a great day everyone!!

NH.... you "THINK" you want more chickens. HAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA thats a good one. You KNOW you will get more.
lol.png

I guess Mopsy will be the first broody....

Congrats on infecting the DH..

Ducks are all accounted for, they spent the night in the barn, just not locked up. They are slightly smart. But the were hollering at me for food as soon as they spotted me. As if it was my fault they had nothing to eat or drink. Oo Well..too bad. See what happens tonight.

Morning everyone, glad to see most of us have checked in, I am a little concerned at Ht also, she had chicks hatching and Don't know if she lost power, hope not. Hope they are all okay. I remember her posting they were having a birthday party for their daughter. Sure hope everyone has a great day and all are safe.

Ruthann,

am so pleased to hear that DH has the disease too!!! I can already see expansion of the coops and runs on all that land of yours..... Don't say that I didn't warn you.................

Thank goodness - another pip.
ya.gif
I was really starting to worry. Thanks for the encouragement, everyone!

Miss Lydia - do you know if HT is in an area that was affected? I hope she's ok!!!

This LOUD little chick is looking to be soooo beautiful!!! Getting fluffy and I guess will be blue. So pretty! Wow do I feel lucky that they're ok!

Heading back to doc for my little guy's foot. He still can't walk! So between my 6 mo old and this 30 pounder not walking I feel like I've been doing some serious weight lifting at the gym. I'm exhausted! Hope he doesn't have to get a cast!

Hope we hear from HT soon!!!

Hey guys, I'm here!! We made it safe and sound, had nothing but wind on Saturday and very thankful for that. Prayers do go out for all those who were affected by the terrible storm.
hugs.gif

Sorry I haven't been able to check in much, this weekend was my DD's 8th birthday. Saturday we had a party for her that lasted all day
th.gif
and yesterday we took her shopping and out to eat.

Now I have one week to get the house together as the "in-laws" will be here Saturday.

Chicks are doing good, have one little bantam marans that is still on the fence, born with spraddled legs but sure if a little fighter. I will try and get those pictures later today, had soo many that I had to seperate into two brooders.
ep.gif

Going into lockdown with another group tomorrow. This group has blue orpingtons from my big show rooster.

Good luck to all those hatching today..

Good afternoon everyone. I thought I would share with you a present I received from my MIL. She is anxious to see/meet the chickens as well, and sent this along for my DD and myself to use when we can. She made it and it is now my "Easter" basket!! How sweet is that? My DH's family is so sweet!!
love.gif
I am so blessed!!

On a fun note: Went to check on the chickies and give them some fresh/clean water to find a certain roo perched on the pen.
ep.gif
I was shocked as it was NOT the one I would have expected. Along with him...Jemimah. Just sitting up there looking around, all proud of themselves.
th.gif
I told the DH and we're trying to come up with a plan B just in case they manage to escape some more. We want to keep these guys & gals protected!! Oh, and Mr. Cotton-Tail was the roo perched up on the "throne" with Miss Jemima Puddleduck.
lau.gif
Maybe they are beginning their courtship early?!? Mopsy is still chasing everyone away from "her" corner of the pen. I thought there might be a nest of spiders or something that she's protecting, but nope. Just "her" corner.
gig.gif

Is it okay if they eat bark?? I put a little twig for them to perch on (which they haven't) and rather than do that, they are ripping the bark off and pecking at it. Just wanted to make sure they aren't lacking anything in the diet.

BHep - Yes...I am SO addicted, but at least DH was corrupted along the way!!
love.gif
Hmm...what next?
SCM - Glad to hear more have pipped!!

We're so happy to hear you are okay!! Hope DD's birthday went well, storms and all.
fl.gif
praying for that little one to be a fighter for you!! Can't wait to see your pictures!!
pop.gif
Blue Orpingtons?? What do they look like? I might have to look at getting some in the future so I can have one of every color!!
lau.gif
Afterall, from my understanding my brood is actually from you via Gavin.
lau.gif
It's a big family circle!!

Any news from EM? I think the Emu's might be holding her hostage...unless one turned out to be a turkey....
ep.gif
Hope she is well.

We're all happy to hear from you HT, was worried you might be in Kansas, with Dorthy

yippee going to get to see pictures, congrats on all the hatching going on and fingers crossed for the little one HT

Looks like power is back on. So we're thrilled about that. Chicks are doing fine though one seems a little lethargic, it has been a rough few days for them. We had gotten an old generator running with the help of my uncle and that kept them happy and warm last night. However, the cost of gas made us turn it off during the day and when it had warmed up to the 80s we put them in a box and took them outside. I don't think they knew what to think of the outside. I gave them a few dandelions in their box and they seemed unimpressed.
sad.png
Oh well.

Quick question- Is poop usually runny brown color in 4 day olds? No one has pasty butt, however one or two of them have needed baby wipe baths to try to get at least some poop off of them. We're still working on it and probably will a little more heavily after the kids go to bed tonight now that we have power back.

Anyway, thanks Bhep for offering to take care of the babies. I think the worst for us is over now, just watching that one that is a little down.
