NH... Both my girls had the stomach virus...fever 1 day then throwing up, stomach cramps , etc.... for about 3-4 days. I heard its running rampet.
Hope she feel better.

Sorry I couldn't make it to the post hole digging party...
gig.gif
I have been doing the same thing out back for my horse, the difference is I have 3 little helpers.
big_smile.png
The were watching my dig and I said wanna try.. yup they did.
celebrate.gif
They are so proud of themselves for "building a fence" . My too !

EFudd, I have the perfect solution for you. You just need more chickens!!!

NH and Bhep - My nephew and in-laws all have that stinkin virus. I hope that's not it for her sake, NH! With all the dr. appts. we've been on the past week I am really keeping my fingers crossed that we don't end up with it!!!!
fl.gif
So it looks like his tibia is broken, not a foot bone. But still no cast - one more week. I'm going to need to enter some kind of Iron Woman competition by the time he can finally walk again!!!

HT - Gosh, why are you so far away!!!
hit.gif
If I just had one kid it wouldn't be too bad, but with the two... I dunno. That complicates things a bit. Maybe when he gets a little bigger it won't seem quite so far!

Congrats on your new babies, G&A!

vfem, how old are your chicks that are outside now? I've been wondering with this nice weather when I should move them out. Not that the coop is ready or anything, but maybe out to the screened-in porch to start off with!

Speaking of the coop, we have actually been making some slow progress. My hubby is hoping to come home from work early tomorrow so we can really get some good stuff done. We have just had such a crazy couple of weeks it has been impossible to accomplish much.
hmm.png
I think the roofing will be our biggest challenge next week but it looks like my brother is going to be helping so that is a relief!

And unless I'm totally off my first little boy is showing himself. The past couple of days one of the Welsummers has changed so much. He is sooo tall and his comb is getting huge and even a little pink! They're not even 2 weeks old yet! And then the little Orpingtons - I can't believe how much slower their feathers are to grow in! They seem to be the shyest of the bunch, too, which surprised me! Luckily my crazy little Ameraucana has chilled out. Is it safe to say that one is a boy just based on his personality???

Have a good night... or a good morning as most of you are probably already in bed where I should be! And good luck with your hatch, Bhep!!!

And as always, please let me know if anyone has any Cochins!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Goodmorning all....

1 OE out and 5 pips that I can see. 1 pipped at the wrong end. I will be watching that one. I have had that once before and the chick did hatch on its own.
fl.gif

The OE is blue colored.

SCM.... I have 6 BBS LF Cohin in lockdown, last attempt ZERO/3 , this time I did not even candle before lockdown, we were rushing out to church, eggs were rocking so I just put them all in the hatcher. I did candle day 10 and did not pull them
hu.gif
I don't even remember if they were developing or I had wishfull thinking. I will be looking for another source, if I come up with anything I will let you know.

EFudd.....YUP, you just need a few more chickens. Then you will have all the egg sandwiches & egg salad you want.

Good Morning Everyone!! My plans for the day is to install some hardware cloth around the run so
fl.gif
if all goes well, sometime this afternoon (under careful observation) I can let the boys and girls out into the run. The "roof" of the run won't be completed until tomorrow when DH can help, but that is my plan. Let's see how well it goes. DD has not gotten sick again, but she does seem to be a little warm (she always feels warm to me
gig.gif
must be her daddy's genes). I am really hoping/thinking it was something she ate!
hu.gif
She has been eating a lot of dirt, grass...my DH even confessed he watched her chew on a pine cone and didn't stop her because he thought it was funny/cute.
barnie.gif
I expect -if she does get sick again -to find dirt, pine cone crumbs, grass and who knows a rock or stick in the mess.
lau.gif
Well...my grandmother in her wisdom use to tell my mother all the time, "God made dirt, therefore, dirt can't hurt"...so who am I to argue with a wise "old" woman?!?
lau.gif
So..time to start nailing some cloth up. If anyone wants to come join the party...I still have some popsicles left, although it doesn't seem to be as hot as it was yesterday!!
th.gif
I have plenty of room for little ones to run and play too... <hint hint> Haha. I am still hopelessly trying.

SCM -
hugs.gif
a special hug for your little guy. Although after all this lifting...you'll have no problems with the 50# feed bags!!

BHep - I have some really great grazing areas...you and your horses are welcome to visit ANY time...although I cannot promise to let them all go home with you!! The DH approved chickens because they are not as expensive as a horse
th.gif
I still want a horse.
gig.gif
I guess I will have to settle for a cochin as my substitute Frisian...so when you find someone with cochins (or if you have any luck and any left over from SCM) let me know too please!
big_smile.png
fl.gif
Good Luck with this hatch...I NEED to see photos....going into withdrawals!!

Coop - I WISH I had a post digger tool...we just used a shovel and let me tell you...I am SORE and I only dug 1 out of the 4 holes. A post digger tool would have been so nice...I wouldn't have had any trouble digging down 2'...then again that means I probably would have had to dig all the holes... nevermind. I like making the DH do it.
gig.gif
I promise you the next time I want to "play" hole digger, I'll let you know!!
lau.gif

VFem - Did you take pictures of the new ones outside??
pop.gif

Have a great day everyone!!
<Sigh> Edited to correct grammar...shame on me!!

Bhep,

for you... We seem to be on the same hatching schedule.
lau.gif
I have one that pipped yesteday and they aren't even due till tomorrow! He's not out yet but expect him sometime this morning. Others are rocking. Look for pips to start later this afternoon and babies to come rolling out between the night and tomorrow.

I have more going into lockdown again next Tuesday. I will also reset another group tomorrow night.

I am so behind with pictures! LOL

The ones outside are 2 weeks older then the ones inside. But they were raised by their mama, so they never actually came in.
hu.gif
Just lucky they like it out there. Only a couple more weeks before mama stops protecting them though, it always happens that way.
jumpy.gif

Its going to be awhile before I can tell if the silkie chicks outside are male/female though... I know the Japs are female, and I know my little white (barred or splash) cochin inside is a boy. I'll get those pictures for sure. I could sure use the help!

Just thought I would post a quick photo of what I managed to accomplish this morning. Last night the DH dug & buried etc... the posts. He made sure they were square and all that fun stuff. Today, I made part of the apron and attached it to the barn and the posts. There is a spot for a door and the partial skirt is 12" the other portion we plan to bury so that will come after the rest is done. I couldn't add anymore cloth without help, so this is all you get...for now!!
hide.gif
is it bad that I was thinking the door could be a future walkway so we can extend the run out further (it was going to be bigger, but we ran out of materials - plenty of HW Cloth though!!
big_smile.png
). That's all I was thinking about while hammering those annoying "U" nails. Not to mention, hardware cloth is sharp and is now the bane of my existence.
lau.gif
My arms look like they went to war with a cat and lost!!
lau.gif
Enjoy my partial run and partially finished barn. Hey, at least there is hardware cloth on the windows IN the run (as well as those outside) ... just another wall of protection against the nastiness!!

So...what do you think?

Hey NewHome, looking good.
thumbsup.gif
Can I give you a suggestion..... For our run we used the 6" tall x 100 feet fence that has 2x3 or 2x4 squares (and much cheaper than hardware cloth), makes it much easier. You then can take your hardware cloth and put it right over the top of it on the inside out outside for that matter and either wire it on or zip tie it on, that way nothing can poke it's head in or out. Just a thought.
wink.png

We didn't do hardware cloth, just put deer netting on the top so nothing can fly in or out and did run two strands of hotwire around the bottom one at 6" from the ground and one at 12". Knock on wood in we have not had any problems in two years.
fl.gif
We are still putting up some 1x boards at the base/middle/top to finish off the look, coop project are never ending.

Here is a picture of the wire I am talking about, you can see it in the background
