My little chick didn't make it....still not sure what went wrong. The other 9 seem to be just fine, so hopefully they will continue to thrive.

Very nice Coop!!! and cute chicks

The stinking thing dug under the coop, it was not a big hole. There where feathers every where but but I couldn't find her body. The rest of the chicks where fine and untouched. I we could come up with was a fox.

My little Sprite died last night.

She was hatched June 10, 2009. She was one of my 2 best quality Dutch hens. She weighed a whopping 15 ounces. She was never sick a single day and was perfectly fine yesterday. Just going about her normal routine as her bossy little self. The only thing I can image is the HEAT. The coop vents are wide open and their's is particularly well ventilated. Last night it was extremely humid and with the heat and no air stiring, it was awful. I myself didn't sleep at all. I buried her beside the Hydrangea were others are buried from over the years.

She was the friendliest little girl you have ever seen. She was the first in your face to see what you had and the first on the picnic table to see what treats were there. You could pick her up anytime you wanted do what you wanted with her. She was perfectly content to be carried around in your hand. She did expect a treat when you sat her down, but I tried to always have something for her. You could set her on you, gently pet her, and she would go sound to sleep. She loved her special naps. I am going to truely miss playing with my little lady.

As for the coop break-in, could be a racoon or opossum as well as a fox and lets not forget about those nasty rats that seem to come from nowhere and they all will dig in for a snack.

Maybe a guardian animal could help out?
