Hello everyone!!
welcome-byc.gif
all of you that are new that I missed welcoming!

to those of you who have lost precious ones!!

Things have been CRAZY here. My DD finally had 6 of her 10 teeth cut through and are starting to drop; however, during this time she was in extra clingy mode and I had to do everything one handed (good practice for additions?? hehe...no announcement there). The chickens have been doing well. We are going to build the final set of doors tomorrow, just in time...they can certainly use the extra ventilation, especially with all of this hot and humid weather!! DH laughed at me for carrying out a bowl of ice cubes to put into their water.
hu.gif
I wanted them to stay hydrated and as cool as possible. I tried the well they need the other set of doors for air circulation, but I didn't want to press my luck!! I also froze a few bottles of water for them to sit on, lay near, something...nope. I think I have the only flock of standards that REFUSES to roost. They prefer to lay in a heap - even in this weather. How one of them hasn't keeled over from the heat is beyond me. Mopsy is notorious for wanting to be underneath EVERYONE!! Weird girl.
So I am perplexed. Out of my 3 roos, Jeremy actually CROWS, Cotton-tail clucks and Timmy...Timmy is a mute. He makes no sound whatsoever: doesn't crow, doesn't coo, doesn't make any noise that I have heard. Is it possible for chickens to be "mute"?? Maybe because "he" is a LO he is not a he, or is just extra slow to develop?!? I saw HT's post a few pages back about how it's hard to tell what sex a LO is until it lays or crows...I will say, "IT" is the largest of the flock. Still...Jeremy & Jemimah are my FAVORITES!! They are the first to come up to me to see if I have any treats for them...to race me outside, etc.
smile.png
They also follow me around and will stop what they are doing to come to me.
love.gif
I am TEMPTED to let them loose, but I also know that the farmer down the lane (my that sounds like an old song
gig.gif
) lets his dogs run free, and I am not willing to risk it... although his dogs are quite small...I think my roos could take them.

Well, now that summer is almost here, we're going to be busy with the farm and tons of weddings! Why is it everyone feels the need to get married in the summer...why not "off season" when it's cooler and carrying around a baby who is clingy isn't so much torture.
hide.gif
sorry if any of you were married in the summer. My mother in law is still trying to buy us a sheep which means even MORE work, and I have so much catch up work that needs to be done in the garden.
big_smile.png
I love being outside...just not in this heat/humidity.

Hey canners: Any suggestions on Honeysuckle Jelly when it's growing hear poison ivy and you're HIGHLY allergic to the poison ivy?? My DH told me to get in yard working gear (long pants, long sleeved shirt, mask, etc...) and pick some to make jelly. I was afraid that I might ingest the poison ivy with the jelly - don't laugh, I did it once as a kid, not the jelly part but eating poison ivy part!!

SCM- Now that you have a cochin...when do I get mine??

HT, BHep, Matt, G&A, and everyone else....WONDERFUL photos.

Hi Ruthann, was wondering where you have been.
smile.png
glad to hear dd is doing better, them teeth are really rough coming in..
sad.png
sounds like all your chicks are doing good and I know they have been enjoying their spacious coop. you said tons of weddings do you make wedding cakes too? you'll have to show pictures. I don't know what to tell you about the crowing or not crowing. if he is low man on totem pole he may not crow because he doesn't want to draw attention to himself, or he could be a slow bloomer. post a really good picture of him front and side and maybe HT can tell. or I can from looking at my girls and Timmy.

Hi Everyone, just popped in to say - I HATE COMPUTERS!!!!! Mine decided to crash today.

Oh, just about forgot to tell you about my hatch. I have three gorgeous little serama's, three split black/lav bantam orps and three buff mottle "project" chicks. Very happy witht his little hatch, my first serama's in over 6 months.
ya.gif
Setting some lavender silkie eggs and a few more serama this evening.

Shutting the big cabinet bators down after this and just going down to the little brinsea for the summer.

Congrats HT
Sorry to hear about your computer. You will have to post pictures of your chicks when your computer starts working again.

Well I got the wire today and of course there was just not enough to go around. I figure well it will be fine till tomorrow, wrong! Our cat was out there making some noise so I go out to make sure every things okay. I go check him and he is fine, so I go and check the chicks and I only see 4, of course I freak. My little OEGB than fly's off the roof and onto my head, so I start looking for my favorite bantam cochin, I can't find her
hit.gif
There is a little hole now that something snuck his way thru
barnie.gif
The chicks made no noise at all, just like the night before. What could it be that's sneaking in? I have moved them back into the garage, where they will now be staying until I figure out what is picking them off.

Just wanted to pop on today to wish everyone a wonderful Memorial Day weekend...although I should say Decoration Day as it was more traditionally known!!

Allabout -
hugs.gif
I am so sorry this has happened to you. Please keep us posted on how things work out...like what made the hole, how big the hole is...that kind of stuff. Perhaps one of the more seasoned chickeners would be able to venture a guess better.
hugs.gif

HT- so sorry about your computer...they always find ways to crash when you rely on them the most...like LONG weekends.
smile.png
I hope it gets fixed soon for you.

ML- Fortunately for my sanity...the weddings are all out of state, but that is a relief for us in the sense that I don't have to make any cakes (until August...I have one wedding cake to do then) but I do have to travel a lot with a "youngin" so I am not sure which is worse to be quite honest. The security officers NEVER understand cloth diapers (aka nappies...at least the kind we have) and so they usually want to take them apart to "inspect" them. That's always pleasant. One day I hope our DD pees on one of them while they're inspecting her diaper...here, why don't you hold her for a moment while my DH goes through the naked machine and I put all the liquids (BM/formula) back into the bag...
lau.gif
As for Timmy Twoshoes...I will try to get a photo of "it"..."it's" not too fond of me...scardy cat and all.

Morning all

Congrats on the hatch HT.
clap.gif
I hear you on the computer thing. Between crashing and my horriable internet service
somad.gif

Allabout... good move into the garage. You will need to predator proof real good, since now whatever it is stealing your chickens knows there is a good meal. Sorry you lost another
hugs.gif

NH...
frow.gif
As far as the chickie pile-up.... that is normal. One day you will go out there and they will be on the roost. Hopefully the scaredy-cat will warm up. Remember, you are the boogieman, soon you will be treat lady. Some chickens just like to keep their distance
hu.gif
