I am so sorry for your loss. I know we aren't exactly neighbors, but if/when you decide to put up a fence just let us know and my DH will be out there with his hammer and shovel and whatever else you need (except the gun...we don't have any of those ... YET).

I have Orpingtons that are laying...you are welcome to some of my eggs!!

I will say it would be a tight squeeze in your bantam pen for these fatsos!!

Please let us know if there is anything we can do to help.

So today is another cake day. I only have 8 more cakes left to make and I'm down to the small ones - the 6 & 8" cakes which only take 20-35 minutes each. DD slept most of yesterday so I was able to get all of the big ones done. Sadly I am running out of room in my freezer and I just don't know what I am going to do. Good thing I can get rid of them on Sunday and don't have to think about anything until September!! Ouch...September isn't that far away!!

So sad!! We're getting at least 1 egg a day now, so I am assuming my girls are laying every other day (ish). They lay in secret so I have no idea who is laying or when....they haven't "announced" it for any of us to hear at least.

Apparently they are shy about that kind of thing!!

I hope everyone has a great day...seems to be a little cooler!!

Gee Ruth, you sure are sweet.

I have to say, with all this cake baking you do I may have to call on you for up coming birthdays and such. My hands are always so full and I do adore homemade. But I'm sure you're ready to start throwing icing at this point

I'm sure the cakes are beautiful! If you could share pics, I would LOVE to see some of them.

I am leaning to the T-posts and wire. I'm going to look into the zappy stuff. I like the idea that I can turn it on at night or when away, I didn't know that you could do that. I have a friend who's an electrician and he owe's us (Drove over our septic tank and crushed the whole top in awhile back). So I think I could get him to help set this up properly for us. I'll hit TSC tonight and start pricing it out.

Thank you guys so much! I HATE coming back here with bad news all the time. Something's gotta give! I need some smiley time, like this little guy who is soooo cute ---->

Anyways.... I have to work again this morning, but I'm taking the afternoon to go swimming with my daughter after I get off. Will be too busy to harp on the bad stuff, just the way I like it!

my uncle has his hot wire all around his yard, and even at the gate, so he has set up to turn off when he needs it to, though his is setup to keep his dogs from running away (im not sure how people have that trouble though..). lol

Vfem... I just picked up 2- 100 foot 60" welded wire (2x4 opening) at Tractor Supply in Clinton, $ 69 a roll regularly $99.99 .

On clearance because they are dented on one side. Who cares...when you put them on the post and pull, they straighten right out. They had several more, I was there yesterday. T-post are about $4 a piece. Or just go with the hot wire. EVERYONE will learn to stay away.

Must be some strong or desperate dog to rip of boards from the coop. Get that web cam out there if you can....I wonder if it even is a dog..

Best of luck !

A combo fence would be best, welded wire with hot wire across the top and along the bottom just a few inches out from the welded wire and up off the ground about 6 inches........stops digging and climbing over the top of the fence and welded wire stops anything/one from just charging through the hot wire. You can turn off the hot wire and I would suggest the chopper type charger, uses less electric and does not keep a steady current on the fence. Good luck and holler if you want help, would be glad to come over and help

I haven't been on here much lately and have missed alot! I have been feeling horrible lately. I always feel like my throat is closing up. The roof of my mouth and my tongue go numb
hmm.png
The doctors have been no help. They say it's allergies so I am taking allegra but it take about two weeks to really work. So I am now waiting, if in two weeks I still feel like this than we will move on to another allergy med
barnie.gif
I am waring masks everywhere, even in the house *sigh*

Last night I looked out the window with a flash light to see if there was anything around the coop ( since we are still having problems ) Sure enough I see a set of eyes our there

My brother gets his gun and go's out. After shooting enough and than some
roll.png
he comes back in. He shot 1 and it was a small thing, well at least I thought it was small. Apparently he only got one of six!

We have a family of raccoons, great!
barnie.gif
No wonder each night about 5 of our chicks would be killed.

BHep, that is a great deal on wire! We have to build a fence now and trying to find our how to do that as cheaply as possible, lol

Sorry allabout that the allergies are acting up so bad. Hope the meds work. It's such a shame about the family of raccoons, they have to eat too just not our chickens, not much else you can do other than shoot. Hope you feel better soon.

We have always had raccoons around here. They eat the cat food and the chicken food whenever there is any out. I thought that was fine but I guess they have gotten to comfortable
hmm.png
We have tried to trap them before but they seem to be smarter than that. After taking 11 chickens, it just seems like we have no other choice.
