Matt, we haven't seen the dog over there. I actually wonder if its a stray? There are lots of wild and stray dogs that come through here, it wouldn't be the first. I know there are packs of feral dogs running through Fayetteville and Lillington areas right now. We're not far from Lillington at all.

I have a webcam and I'm thinking of walking it out and setting it up if I have enough cable and my wireless modem should be good for the set up. I'm bothered that we have 2 motion detector lights and that doesn't seem to have bothered the animals or people coming around? I just priced out chain link fencing (100+ feet) and it looks to be between $400 and $600 if we want it fence in the coops. WOW, that is so not in budget when we're struggling. I'm a bit too broken hearted to think on that right now, so I'll take a deep breath and wait.

Thankfully, I moved my last 2 red cochin bantam pullets over to the Japanese Bantam coop. They'll just have to work it out and get along, its the safest place for them because that coop is 3 feet off the ground and metal sides rather then the wood like the one the dog got in. I don't know how he did it, but the dog ripped the wood panels off the side of the coop and got in!!!??? No one was free ranging or even in their runs when this happened.

BHep, that would just make my world. Of course we need to take care of the evil killer and fix the coop. Hubby is planning on dismanteling the coop completely at this point and raise the frame up on stilts like the other coops. I feel better with them off the ground, this one was ground level.

I miss those pretty babies so much right now, and even my rooster was beautiful.... he never even got his first crow yet!

I am now down to 14 chickens.

Throw up some T-posts and hot wire!!!! Fastest and cheapest way to keep both of the "vermin" out!

you could hot wire.. alot of neighbors around my families place use it, and you just have to use high amps/voltage, so the bigger dogs decide they dont want to just ignore the charge. its alot cheaper than chainlink, and ive seen alot of dogs jump and climb over or dig right under, unless at least a foot and a half down, and nine feet high (wild dogs are alot more creative and determined). also seen bigger dogs tear right through anything but very high quality chainlink, so if they really want to get in, itll cost you to redo it if cheaply done (not saying youd do it cheap, just some contractors that would be installing charge high, but do cheaply).

lol.. guess i was beat to the hot wire suggestion while off daydreaming.

Hot wire concerns me as my daughter and neighborhood kids are all small and not so bright. I can see a screaming 5 year old running out of my yard screaming for mama!!!

I don't wanna be the parent who has to face that parent!!!

We're still in a small neighborhood even though we're out in the country.

Let your neighbor know what & why you are installing it, you can always turn it off when you are home or out in the yard?? I would be very concerned for my animals safety and now you have people coming to your property and stealing..... NO WAY!!!!

Kids are smarter than you think if you really explain what the wire can do to them - besides, they'll only touch it once!

I am so sorry to hear you had even more problems. I hope things improve and quickly. I'm willing to swing a hammer to help put up a fence and maybe a welded wire or farm fencing wire would work for now? That would be cheaper.
