Spent our last day of summer break at the beach yesterday...had a GREAT day. Kids are off to school today.

House is quiet.

I've been making a mental list on what needs to be done around here before Sat. Praying that Irene passes by, but doesn't seem that way yet. So we will be prepared and if we get nothing then..... better safe then sorry. Feed pails are full....empty pails ready to fill with water. Some birds will come in the house, the rest will ride out the storm. Cleaning out a shed to move the ducks & geese into. OOO joy ! won't they be happy ! NOT

Spoiled critters that they are.

Off to do last minute shopping... kids need MORE school supplies that were not on the list

extra feed for the chickens and fill some gas cans. Plenty of food here already.... no need to buy any cold foods, won't matter if we have no power.

I always wonder why all the milk is gone at the store ? What are you going to do with milk with no power ?? And bread? Won't it be moldy before you get through 10 loaves

And I have 3 broodies at the moment.... I am keeping them on unfertile eggs. IF we lose power, they will get me eggs from the incubator. Bring on the broodies !!!!

Enjoy your day ! !

I just realized how nice next week is going to be at the beach since we're going mid week and leaving on labor day weekend's beginning. All the kids are going to be in school, so it's not going to be crazy crowded!

Ok, I'm here trying to flake on my responsibilities but the chickens need to eat, and some water... then grocery store (if anything is left on the shelves, the crazy shoppers beat me to it in a hurricane freak out!)... and the home to get back to canning. Though I have a feeling by lunch time I know where I'll actually be....

Morning everyone! Hope all is well! Going to be an interesting weekend. My husband leaves for a 4 night bachelor party but I'll have a FULL house of OBX family here to ride out the storm! Gotta get to housework and storm proofing! Which btw, is nearly impossible to do with my 2 little ones! I don't know how the rest of you do it, but man it is a struggle for me! Maybe I should start by putting away the computer and quit obsessively watching the weather channel!

Hope chickenstock goes well and that you all have a great time and find what you're looking for!

Bhep - my friend has decided to hold off on more chickens right now, but I had a neighbor stop by to see if I had any extra girls I wanted to part with. She gave me her number just in case I came across any! So if you still want to sell your EE girls send me a PM with the details and I'll pass them on!

Hey Wake Countyish folks - where do you guys get DE??? I keep thinking I'll come across it and never do! Thanks!

SCM............. I sent you an email they other day with pics & info. You did not get it???? I will PM you. I used the email feature here on BYC ..

Sheesh - sorry Bhep! It went into my junk box!!! I'll give my neighbor a call and let you know if they're interested! Did they come from blue/green eggs like most EEs? Just want to make sure I don't give her any false info. Also do you head to the Fuquay TSC ever or anywhere toward this side of town where it would be easier to meet them??

Thanks!

SCM, Twin Oaks Feed in Willow Springs NC has DE. It's not far from me at all, it's off of hwy 42. Just take 42 from higway 55 in Fuquay toward Clayton. Take a right on Kennebec Rd and follow that around until you see Walter Myatt Rd on your left and Twin Oaks is on the corner, can't miss it. They have 11lb shaker bottles of DE or 50 lb bags.

Anyway...... yes they hatched from blue eggs that I bought at the auction. They are not laying yet, to my knowledge. Although, I did find a tiny blue pullet egg in the barn late last week. Only other blue egg layers are some blue wheaten Ameracaunas, these hatched 2 weeks before the EEs. So could be either.

I never go to Fuquay... but I could work something out to meet them 1/2 way.
