BHep: any news for us? We are anxious to hear about your missing girl!! I PROMISE you I did NOT take her!!
Just trying to make you smile.
from all of us!! We are praying with you that she will be found safe and sound!!
Vfem: Beautiful!! As always, I find myself green with envy!! Do you do gardening classes too??
If so, I may need to sign up for an entire YEARS worth!!
We are holding steady at 4-6 eggs a day now...too bad DD eats them all!!
So far only an occasional dark chocolate brown egg from the Marans...unless you count the freak of nature green/brown egg!!
Regardless, Dutchess is doing her job, so we'll keep her!! I have been spending WAY too much time reading about sheep...I think I have sheep coming out of my ears at this point in time!!
I am beginning to think just paying the $50/month for our sheep's milk will be so much cheaper than actually messing around with the actual things...and so much easier on me!! Although I really REALLY DO want to learn how to make cheese and such from the milk...
who knows...maybe I'll still be able to learn from someone out there!!
Have a great day everyone. I am planning on making a few cherry pies for my neighbors....they brought me a bushel (don't know if that's really what it was...but you get the idea) of pears and a HUGE pumpkin...I am excited to roast some seeds, cook up some pumpkin (I think these are meant for carving, so who knows what the taste will be like...DD shouldn't complain) and make (or attempt to make) some canned pears!!
Good Morning everyone. Finally getting some much needed rain. I've got to post some pics for you. Baby chicks are doing well and had 3 seramas hatch last night.
been so tired! lots of reading for me this morning!
One of my girls laid me an egg yesterday... in my tool shed in the kiddie pool
Now I just have to get the to realize thats what the coop is for!
I have one girl.. her name is suzie. the one and only girl I have taken liberty of naming.. She is the one and only chicken brave enough to sneak into the house when the DH leaves the front door open. I mean she just makes herself at home!
I think its kinda funny as long as she doesnt crap on my floors!
So lots of beautiful babies being hatched! Can't wait to see the pictures!

I was the same way about our goats. We decided to get Nigerian Dwarf Goats (mainly because of their size, and that they produce milk). I bought 3 books, and spend a lot of time online looking at local farms and breeders, and then calling them to see if they could give me more information etc. Kinda like with us on here and the chickens, they become a very useful source of information. This is also the time of year, that a lot of breeders are "cleaning out" their herds to make room for spring babies. Goats and sheep have a 5 month pregnancy, so they are picking their breeding line ups out now, and selling the rest. You can also get some very nice goats/sheep at a multiple animal discount this time of year too. I have read not to go to auctions or "barn yard sales" as you can't confirm the health of the animals, but to go to the persons farm, and see their stock etc, plus you make new friends
We are so excited to have the chickens from HenThymes...we have already gotten eggs from them this morning. I will post some photos of the seramas later on, but am waiting for the other birds to finish molting.
We are going to pick up our wood stove in a few minutes and then we are buying the lumber for my permanent coop!!! YAY!!!
