It was surprisingly SOOO much easier than I expected. I will be making homemade butter weekly. I haven't decided if I'm going to get a kitchen scale so I can bake with it or just keep buying the Land of Lakes butter for baking.

If you are interested in trying I'll take pictures next time to walk you through it.........

I said the same thing after making vfem's honeysuckle jelly recipe so I dusted off my old bread machine and made a spot on the counter. That was early this summer and I haven't bought bread since!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm an addict!!!! I make bread just about every other day now!

I set it at night, set the timer, and wake up to the smell of bread baking. Seriously one of the best things ever.

The first time I made butter I was whipping some heavy cream and had to run out of the room due to some sort of kid disaster (fall, fight, who knows....) and oopsie daisy - had butter!

Fixed it up a little, made my mom who was coming to dinner stop on the way and grab some more cream. Now I love making my own butter, too!

I'll just keep putting out the chick feed since I have a bag and hope they eat it! I swear there is something amazingly cute about those little tiny buggers running around with the big girls. I am really enjoying watching them!!! Hopefully I can get a few more pics tomorrow. I guess I'll be out there removing that nice brooder I was so proud of anyway!

Good early Saturday morning everyone!! We had company pop in a day early (their last amusement part feature was a huge let down) so I am up with my chickens making some home-made cinnamon swirl bread!! In about 2 hours this house is going to smell FANTASTIC!! YUM!!

DoubleT- I would LOVE to see your step-by-step butter making process!! We get raw sheep's milk (although I don't know if you can use that for butter) and I never know what to do with the cream on the top - aside from give it to DD to drink, which she LOVES!!

Dave - I have heard conflicting reports about the back fat/lard issue. I ordered some back fat from the co-op that we get our sheep's milk from, so we will see what exactly it is (how to use it will be another story!!). I've been told it's like a hard, solid lump of fat that is great for frying veggies & such...so I may try to "melt" it and use it in the recipe that way. If that doesn't work...when my dad visits for Christmas, he is going to be getting a LOT of beans fried in back fat!!

Thank you for asking!!

I will be sure to post a photo of it when I get it!!

BHep - So...I may have to buy some Faverolle chicken eggs (for you to hatch out for me, of course....

) because the Salmon colored ones are just ADORABLE!! Oohh...maybe some English Orp eggs from HT and some D'uccle - the bearded brown spotted ones!!

Okay, I really need to stop looking at chicken breeds and photos...you have corrupted me!!

Have a great day everyone...I'm off to help the bread rise and drink some nice HOT tea!! Oh, and if you see Spring & Summer...tell them I miss them already!!
