got some done last night on a new
turkey pen......coming along slowly but
at least it is moving along

Good morning, Busy People!

The smoker is warming up and the turkey is ready to go on it. The duck will wait a bit, as it's less than half the turkey weight. Yummy supper of duck and??? Gotta think of something good to go with it. Sweet potatos and???? It'll come to me.

As soon as the turkey goes in, I'll start on some more cookies. I can get all the Krispies done for Thursday before I leave, then do up the fig bars and blackberry custard kutchen this afternoon when I get home. Debating on a pumpkin cheesecake. Tomorrow afternoon will be marathon cookie and muffin baking. 110 hungry, home-baked-goods-deprived students to feed, starting at 8:00 am.

Chickies are growing strong! The ones from Daddy are learning about scratch. And the Guard Turkey is still doing her job!

Have we decided where and when we are all planning on meeting up Saturday? I am planning on coming along with my DH and 2 (or as DH likes to say 2.2) munchkins!! I think I am going to let my chickens have some yard time today (they are going CRAZY) as I plan to be outside most of the day. If I need to go inside, I will just lock them up and will just have to work out a system for now. A friend of ours offered to come out and look at our set up to make suggestions on how we can better deter ALL predators and still free range (of course nothing is 100% fool-proof). He's a farmer and has been dealing with the same issues, but the coyote don't bother his cows, just the calfs - and smaller critters. The wild hogs try to take down his cows though!! Guess those things are nasty and tough...I don't want them any closer than they have been, so deterring them will be a bonus!! I have a play-date today for my DD and it should be interesting & fun. It's her first play-date with this family and their kids are much rougher then mine, so we'll see how it goes. It'll be good for her to toughen up a bit...hehe
Anyone want an older kitten?? She's probably 1 by now and is DRIVING ME CRAZY...She keeps dashing outside every time the door is open, and...well...being an annoying kitten. LOL Where's Alex and her amazing training skills when I need her. This monster doesn't listen to me, but Alex - now that's a different story!!

Good morning everyone its hot and im sick of it, Where is the SNOW!!!! And the cold!!!? At least im getting eggs again, my pigeons are laying e so now to see if she sets on them. And my call ducks started laying.... then stopped and i was like "what happened???" Until i found a hidden nest in the coop(well buried) with 12 eggs in it she got very mad when i messed with them, so i took most and left her with 3 to maybe sit on.

Here it is almost winter and my flock is getting confused, I think my bantam game hen thinks it;s time to be broody she's been in the nest box all morning. I have chickens molting, never had them molt this time of year.

im so sick of all the confusing weather. for a couple good hard frosts and atleast a couple inches of snow.

How many is ok? I have a 8x8 (remodeled playhouse) Coop and a 20x20 run. How many hens will be comfy there? I was guessing maybe 15... thoughts?

The coup has 6 nesting boxes (we designed the nesting boxes to allow another row of nesting boxes on top), 4 2"x4' roosting staggered roosting poles and 1 2"x8' roosting pole above a poop board, two windows~ 1 that leads out to a ramp that goes out to the run. Hanging feeder and waterer. A flock block and lots of haaaay.
