NH Sorry about your loss. Maybe she had seizures, as I had a roo that had them and it did end up killing him. My silkies are great broodies! My problem is them fighting over eggs. And yes silkies will STEAL eggs. But when messed with make good pets, and your DD's should like the "cat hair" like feathers.

Coop Scoop Boogie. think of your girls and boys (chickens). if the price is right, you get them for the chickens. I had to wire off my collards so my chickens would not eat them all.
and you just need a southern woman to teach ya. My missus has taught her daughters the last couple of times, over the phone. it was a heck of a long phone call and many times recalls just to make sure, but it is worth it... Being from the west coast, I found, I love them....

NewHomesteader, sorry for your loss. My little area where our animals go when they pass is getting way too large but as someone said. They, dogs, cats, birds and chickens become family real quick. Normally I know what happened to them but for those rare few, not knowing is worse, esp if no body is found. You just keep hoping one day they return. Our cat Blackie Bear, disappeared for 8 months. We were sure he had gone into the forest but the day after Irene, I saw a pitiful black thing in the front. Yes, It was Blackie Bear, looking bad, scared but well feed. I guess he had became a forest kitty or someone took him in. smiles. the missus was so happy and since then, Blackie Bear is always on the property. So, yes, sometimes they do come back..... But your heart beacks each time you lose one....

Ok so I finally got Wendell in the house, he is a huge rooster, but very gentle. Soaked his feet in very warm betadine water. I can see some swelling on the bottom center of his left foot, but no 'kernel' as described in all of the bumble foot posts. All cream colored intact skin. I washed his feet really good, he had some packed manure between his toes and the like, but no real issues. Now he has nice clean feet and he is putting some weight, mostly to balance himself on that foot, but he is upright. He had gone down and wouldn't get up. He loved the foot bath and I will check it again tomorrow or later tonight. One of the hens got really upset at me taking Wendell and pecked me, I had on a sweat shirt and she made a bruise on my arm, next time I will be armed with a squirt bottle. She tends to get a little aggressive, guess I need to do some dominance training with her, lol! I am the alpha

Hope everyone is having a Merry Christmas Eve Eve! We are having a super one, our little 5lb pomeranian went missing yesterday. I worked the night shift this weekend and was awakened after about 4 hours sleep by my daughter screaming hysterically that someone had stopped and picked up her dog when he darted away from her boyfriend. So we started a facebook campaign, called sheriff dept and local PD, called all the local vets and shelters and emergency clinics. She canvased the town with flyers and posters. This morning I was awakened after 2 hours sleep by a lady calling to say she saw one of the posters and she has our doggie!!! Faith in human kindness restored as I traverse the Christmas season! The lady said she even let him sleep with her last night as he seemed to be accustomed to that

. She said she was kinda sad to give him up as she used to have poms and he was so sweet. But he is 10.5 years old and she said she knew someone was loving and missing him "he didn't buy that coat himself" He had on his blue fleece hoodie.
Got to run, have a great day all!

Good Morning, Happy People!

And a happy Christmas Eve to you, too!

DD wanted to go up to the big antique store in Dunn yesterday, so that's how we spent half the day. But she got a few cool things, and I got a chicken candy dish which I will use as a butter dish.

The furnace is still working!

House chicken has a name now. I'm calling her Bonnet, as she looks to be wearing one...or in need of one!...with her scalped head. Maybe by New Year's she can go back out and be a chicken.

Lots to do today, so have a great day, everyone!
