Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas! Ours was super, kids, grand kids, food and gifts! and then, last night when I came home after dark, I was checking my babies...the Buff Orpingtons, my roo's leg seems to have resolved, never could find anything wrong with it *but he enjoyed the foot washings

). Look what I found in the pen, under the coop...

Found one in one of the nest boxes tonight, so I guess at least one of my 4 BO hens is offically laying! I'm excited!

So glad the holidays are over, i am plum wore out. I spent most of today sleeping in between bouts of morning sickness. I am feeling very achey and sick. I go to the doctors monday for my second ultrasound YAY. My mom thinks i am carrying a girl because i am having all day morning sickness,(stupid name for something that can last all day or only night i have yet to wake up sick) and craving carbos and sweets. Good thing too, cause we have to big pans of lasagna. And a about 6 dozen different sweets

Good Morning, Happy People!

Lovely rain today! Looks like it's just supposed to be a morning rain for my area, then back to sunshine.

House Chicken is still healing well.

And....drum roll, please!....today is the day I pick up Levi. Six weeks, since his mom isn't caring for them. And as of yesterday, 15.5 pounds! He's the biggest in the litter by a pound! And he still has bright, light blue eyes. Maybe he'll get to keep the blue eyes rather than have them go brown or amber.

I'll take pictures!

Have a great day!

Quote: I never had severe morning sickness, just slight nausea all day long for about 8.5 months, worse with my son than with the girls. Craved grits with the son and not really anything with the girls. I loved being pregnant, Congrats wilds!

Weather is saying rain/snow mix all day so I guess I will try to do a very little 'un-decorating'. I just don't want Christmas to ever be over, I love the decorations, my tree is still so pretty and is still drinking well, I hate to take it down, probably next weekend
sad.png

Meanwhile, I need some suggestions. I designed, with help from ex-carpenter hubby, the chicken tractor that houses the BO's. When I lift the top of the nest box cover, any rain water drips down on the nests and wets my nests. Any ideas on how to stop the drip?

pics are from the construction stage, but you get the gist of it, also should I cover the vent at the top of the nest boxes, it is covered with hardware wire, should I put plastic over it for the winter. I was thinking about covering the hardware wire under the coop with plastic. What do you experts think. I am just a noob here!

I think I see a weather cover above the hinge on the back? If so, why not get more and turn it upside-down under the hinge on the inside. You might have to cut a small relive in the dividers and one end for drainage. Just what comes to mind, without looking at it up close.
Good Luck

Awesome idea! I keep looking for something to put on the outside, never occurred to me to put something on the inside. Do you think I need to put plastic over the vents and under the coop..thought that might keep the coop warmer since the floor is above ground?
