North Carolina

Well here on the western side of the State, I find myself again, getting ready for winter again. sheesh... We have not had that much rain, enough to make the Corral a mud hole and soak all the animals but nothing like you far east or mountain people. Moved the teenagers into their new coop, with the summer babies who are now all laying daily. (really just an older one), the kids are now without lights in JDC. The missus loves that term.....Tarps are back on the open coops, hanging plants back inside the planting room, cold shelters set up for the cats. ( REALLY JUST THEIR FAV BOXES TO SLEEP IN) Cats in a box!!!!! I figure about 2 weeks or so until I move the last 13 kids/teens into their coop. Still waiting to see if a boy is in the bunch and if not Sugar Bitches one of the boys from summer gets them all.... Funny, I told the missus about chicken math last night. She says we thats right. Started out with 6 chickens 3 or 4 years ago, ( i am old so the memory fails alot) and have worked up to 38 now. Looking forward to seeing how many babies we get this year.... mmm, I am just rambling here but... there is always a but. I need to build another coop and a better biddie box, plus a permanent JDC. Sure and the missus "honey do list", which means, alot of the list will be put off another year. smiles. She says I can't die til the list is done. Is that called cheating????? Plus she is mean enough to see me dead and beat me til I am alive again...

I wanta go to a WCA....

Excuse me im looking for a Guy named Noah ... any other ARK builders here in NC ? 4 days of rain and at least 2 more coming .
well il going to Canoe out to feed , and check the mail

I am so tired of all this rain here in NC. I got some amerucanas/ee last week. They are 7 weeks old. I am excited to see what color egg they will end up laying. They were supposed to be amerucanas, but I think that they are EEgers.. I read everyday, just so hard to keep up :)

Cuties! I agree with everyone else though....I see at LEAST 3 boys.

most black and white ees end up being boys but there are a few girls. Here's some pics of black and white ees I think at 3 months maybe 4

these top two are of a pullet

these next two are a male the males tend to come off a different pattern (more Colombian looking) then the pullets (more black to them)

Oh no!!! I sure hope that they don't turn out to be boys!! There is only one solid white one. I had bought five from little birdie in wake forest and gave three away to my husbands best friend. I kept the one that is mostly black and the one that is all white . In the ad they were guaranteed pullets so if they turn out to be boys i don't know what i will do. I already have three roosters here :(

Sleepless night for me... Something got ahold of one our hens and tore her up. Didn't rip through anything vital but did tare through her skin and some fat and maybe what looks like muscle by her neck. She is sleeping right now and we are going to see if she pulls through the night and then head up to Raleigh with her to the avian vet there and see if they can patch her up.

I would wait on the vet as chickens are pretty good at healing with not much help. just clean it out and put some swat or antibiotic cream (without pain relief) and keep her in a quite place away from the others....unless tomorrow is when everyone goes to see them for their moving papers
