Hey Fellow NCers

Just checking in from Newport!
We have a small backyard flock of English Orps and a few Bos and a cochin roaming the yard. We didn't get chickens until recently and I'm loving being a "chicken momma"!

Anybody else experiencing this heat wave? It was 73 out today and the flock spent the day sunbathing in the dirt :)

hi all, just a quick hello to those who know me, yes I am still lurking........

2 things:

1. Incubator fires up this weekend.....

2. Anyone have spring show dates and contact details?

Happy Hatching...

Gavin

sorry you ladies are having such a sleepless time while
preggers.......I must admit that none of my 3 peggers had
morning sickness or sleeplessness or much of any problem
and all three girls slept through the night from the first day
home.........hope you ladies have a better time of it soon

hate some folks got more than they need in rain but we have
not had such a flood........just enough of a gentle rain today
to help with the dry conditions......now the weatherman
used a four letter word today and I'm ready to wash his
mouth out for it......he swore and said the dreaded SNOW word

I sure hope he was playing an early April fools joke

Sleepless night for me... Something got ahold of one our hens and tore her up. Didn't rip through anything vital but did tare through her skin and some fat and maybe what looks like muscle by her neck. She is sleeping right now and we are going to see if she pulls through the night and then head up to Raleigh with her to the avian vet there and see if they can patch her p.

Do you have any NuStock?

I keep it in my cabinet for emergencies.

If not, and if the wound isn't too deep maybe some Neosporin? Something to keep any infection out while it heals.
I agree though, I'd wait to take her to the vet...we have an avian vet in town and she charged me $75 to be seen, $300 for medications and then another $75 to put my chick down [I can't cull my own and my DH was out of town] I don't know if they're all that expensive, but I wouldn't go back to mine again.

sheesh, sorry.. I guess since I lived on the west coast for so long, everything is backwards for me. Down there is now up there, east is now west etc. Ok, I SHOULD HAVE POSTED. **** shift key stuck again..... Well here on the eastern side of the State. Drat!!!!
why I need some of you western, central people to move closer. I need some meet ups and WCA's closer... Trust me, you don't want me on the road for over 3 hours.... I use my trusty Gousha map from gawd knows when to see where everyone lives. Half of the places you live in are not even on the darn thing. Must be kind of old.... kind of like me...

I would wait on the vet as chickens are pretty good at healing with not much help. just clean it out and put some swat or antibiotic cream (without pain relief) and keep her in a quite place away from the others....unless tomorrow is when everyone goes to see them for their moving papers

I hope she will heal on her own. and we already got their paperwork so its another trip
