Well I called Animal Control and the Sheriffs offices today for Craven County. Talk about a run around. No one could or would quote me a rule, law or anything. Animal Control said if I trap it they will come pick whatever it is I trapped. The Sheriff which, no offense Wisher, is worthless as it is. (that's another story), just told me, they do not handle that. I did hold my breath and did not say, You guys don't handle anything do ya!!!! And gave some examples of what ifs. Again, no real answer except, I wouldn't do that. Their answer to everything. Don't call us but don't do anything either. Response time out here is long enough for someone to shot a bad guy, bury him and even have a service and dinner before anyone shows up. I guess they want to make sure they don't have to do anything. So it's going to be SSS. darn, Government agency have gone to Heck. By the way, I was just asking in case something did happen. The neighbors know I will shot anything that comes across my property without permission if it even looks at any of my animals or family wrong..... Word has gotten around cause, we have never been robbed, neighbors yes, me, no!! it helps they know I am crazy that way....

thinking about building some chicken coops on the side to make some extra money. Possibly auto waterers also. What are peoples thoughts? thinking about trying to do it using mostly reused items.. go green and all

I would maybe make one or take pictures and post it to Craigs list or the local free ad paper. (here it is the Carolina Bargin trader) I am always looking for stuff but no one lives close enough. Tons of good stuff I would buy if I didn't have to spend half a day driving... One person was ripping down his pens, barns etc and was selling the stuff dirt cheap, (basiclly, take it away and some change) but then with gas,and 3 1/2 hours, it would not be worth it...
Them anyone, it's made to order or make one and hope.

Just my 2 cents....

Welcome to the new folks! Had a long day at work today, and will have a longer but easier one tomorrow. Hubby got home from one trip yesterday, and left on another one today. Hubby had a rental car yesterday, so I took a couple of my Boys along for the ride to get daddy. Reilly couldn't go, as he doesn't fit with the others since he's the big one. Here they are watching for him to come back out of the building. jake is a small English mastiff. Murphy is a mastiff crossed with something that jumped the fence. And there's Levi the Great Dane pup between them. Love my Boys!

Such good babies. I've been dying to see them, thanks for sharing.

When my kids wanted pets....DD a bunny and DS piranha...we were homeschooling and living in Central America. I made each of them write a paper on the care, health problems, etc., of their particular animal request. They knew exactly what they were getting into when they got them!

Yeah. Mean mom. That's me!

i totally agree if they dont have the patience and responsibility to write a paper and learn everything about that animal then how is it gonna be when they get the pet, when i was younger every single time i became obsessed with a new type of animal i spent all my free time research them and making notes i could probably write books on 95 percent of the pets out there , my parents didnt make me do that stuff i enjoyed it... its the nerd and OCD in me

My bday is march 7. Next week, will go shopping for the coop building supplies. Dumb question, but how high up the sides of the run do i need to use hardware cloth vs using cheaper chicken wire?

mines saturday ... i would put around 2 and a half to 3 feet depending on how small ur birds are and if they can fly or jump up high and it may pay in the long run to get the rubber coated wire so it doesnt rust towards the bottom and maybe even bury it under the sides a foot or 2 just to be safe if ur in a predator proun area

We just got a BB gun to try and ward off animals venturing into our yard but if all else fails we will shoot too. We have trapped so many animals over the years that we had to get our own trap. The officers take forever to come and remove them. When we asked that same question the animal control officer told us that if something is threatening us or our animals then to shoot it. BTW.... We are also known as the crazy people in the neighborhood.
