mines saturday ... i would put around 2 and a half to 3 feet depending on how small ur birds are and if they can fly or jump up high and it may pay in the long run to get the rubber coated wire so it doesnt rust towards the bottom and maybe even bury it under the sides a foot or 2 just to be safe if ur in a predator proun area

Happy Bday on Saturday, Lol cuz I wont remember that far away, life is so stinking busy with the move and work. Thanks for the response on the fencing, I planned to bury it 8-12 inches at least, and I'm getting silver laced wyandottes, not sure how big they will be. My worry was how high can a raccoon reach through and try to grab my babies.

We're soooo romantic around here. Decided to go out for Valentine's tonight to avoid crowds. Home by 8:30, shut up the coops on the way in (hey, at least we did it together!), and DH is in bed......no, not waiting for me......he is snoring. It's 8:35. *sigh*

haha thats funny...I am working night shift on V day, we bought each other gifts about 2 weeks ago...handguns, nothing like a little lead to say I love you.

We "celebrated" Valentines Day tonight and it was less than "hot." We went out to dinner....guess we should have just gone down to the shooting targets. Maybe I could have kept him awake later than 8:30.

Don't feel bad, I fall asleep long before him most nights. Some i can blame on working night shift and flipping between days and nights all the time. Our weekend will consist of moving large furniture items into the new house...how incredibly romantic.

I think we were supposed to have some alone time tonight, but DS-1 & DS-2 did not want to got to bed, and we had a few birds to move and lock up for the night .... It is really hard to have time alone after having kids... unless you count when we were hunting slugs in the green house tonight?

We were technically alone.... darn things were after the herbs, broccoli and cauliflower.

In chicken news we are trying a little experiment.

I have recently gotten a mate for my little Sumatra girl. She is very sweet, but likes to hang out up in the canopy of trees, NOT the hen house. Thank you Ramirez & Beth for getting him to us.
We moved the happy little couple into a nesting box that is attached to a tree tonight. It is wired closed for the night, and we will turn them loose in the morning to see if they will use it. If they don't right away, we may try to do the over night placement a few more nights to see if it can be taught, but that depends on where they do perch tomorrow night.

The nesting box should have both birds' smell in the morning, and should be a place that they can see most of what is going on to explore, and still feel safe. I could not find were anyone had tried this, so here goes nothing!

Spring is racing towards us........already one month is gone and
we are nearly half way through the second month. I see trees
with their spring blooms and spring flower bulbs are sending
up greens............even a few daffodils are in bloom............maybe
they are just earlybirds

Good Morning, Happy Chicken People!

Yesterday when I went out to feed the calves their supper, Levi started to chase a pair of pullets that had jumped the fence. He called back off them, though! I was very pleased! I allowed him to go with me to shut the calves in for the night...his first time near the calves...and he ran over to get a good whiff. Then he decided their poop was more interesting than they were. Ugh! Still, not bad. Not bad at all!

The new batch of chicks are doing well too!
