Ramirezframing: So I should cut back both the top and bottom beak and that will make them grow back even?
Hey, take a pick, just incase it is different.

Ramirez, I always thought that I could, but was concerned about what method to use. I think your idea will work for her. I wish I had thought of it. It may not line back up, but will make eating much easier since it has worsened of the years.

I think we may need to change the name of our place from the Meadows to the Swamplands!! I am so sick and tired of the rain, mud, mess! Worse yet...I have 2 that are driving me CRAZY wanting to go outside and play.

Funny chicken story: so Beth & Alex come by for a short visit and one of my "roosters" who has been designated as a rooster since "his" comb came in first, etc...turns out to be a PULLET and one of my definite PULLETS turns out to be a rose combed rooster!! LOL It worked out for the best though, because I was worried about how long it was going to take "him" to reach a good weight to be "promoted" to freezer camp...no wonder he was progressing so slowly!! LOL It just goes to show you - when you have mutts, it's really hard to figure out (based on comb alone) what you have. LOL. Still, my hatch rate is at roughly 95% rooster!! If you want roosters, send them this way (once I get a broody) and it'll more then likely happen!!

On a happy note, ALL of my girls should be laying (aside from the biddies) any moment now! I'm hoping that since the stress of the Mafia (aka guineas) is gone and they will no longer be getting attacked and flogged that the laying will kick in!!

they will never be even on your bird it will either stay the same or (more than likely) get worse. With yours, I would leave it alone at the moment. Unless the top is really hooked. If you look at the top part near the end with a good light you should see a light area that goes up to a darker area as the beak gets closer to the head. If there is alot of the light area before the darker area, you can trim some of the light area. The darker area has blood in it and should not be trimmed. The reason Chasity should do her hens bottom beak is that in the younger picture you can see where it goes past the top beak when closed. This will miss-aline the beak. Later on you might have to trim your chicks bottom beak as well. I did on Peeper's bottom beak so it didn't stick out so far and food didn't get stuck so much in it.

I need baby chick help!!! My 3rd chick is starting to look act sick. The first 2 have died already...they just start to act sluggish. I have vitamins & electros in the water, heat is correct, no pasty butts, no running poop. Any advice???
