OK, need advice from you more-experienced hatchers.

Here's the story. Displaced aircell. Pipped first, pipped early on day 20, face down. A good bit of yellow liquid wicked out onto the paper towel, a bit unusual. At 24 hours after pip, still just a pip with beak stuck out the hole. I took him out and chipped away some pcs of shell, but stopped b/c tiny drops of blood in membrane. Another three hours later, chick more active, tried again, stopped because of drops of blood again.

Wrapped in a warm damp washcloth, then replaced in incubator.

Thoughts?

ETA: Right now there are no other pips in the bator, so I could go in again. After I have another pip, however, I'm probably not willing to compromise my Swedish Flower Hens for this baby, although I really want to save it.

Good Morning Chicken lovers!!

Thank you for all the help with regards to the hunt for a cow for us (so glad it's still in the early stages!!). You all are truly wonderful people! I don't know about you all, but I was SO happy for a dry day - I am sick of all this rain, yet someone told me if we have a wet winter it means that our summer will not be as wickedly hot as it has been/could be. If that is true, I will suck it up and take the rain...LOL. My chickens and ducks are LOVING life here now that it is a bit more relaxed for them! They spent ALL day yesterday in the middle of the yard just sunning themselves without looking over their shoulders fearing a guinea attack. It was nice. I was afraid it would be too quiet, but....but "No Name" (my nameless blue sex link rooster boy) was happily walking the perimeter of the house crowing away all day!

Boy, I love a crowing rooster (so long as it's during the day and not at night...although I doubt I'd hear it at night...LOL)!

Busy weekend ahead, soil is being delivered tomorrow for our "raised" bed garden, coop cleaning is going on Saturday along with moving ALL the dirt INTO the garden - any suggestions on keeping the chickens OUT of the dirt?? We're getting 2 dump truck full loads, so I don't think we'd have a tarp or anything big enough to cover it up...I just don't want to lose all the dirt or have it scattered around the area because they are digging in it. Hmm...maybe tomorrow I'll sequester them and see if they lay any eggs?!? Good suggestion...I'll keep them under lock and key for 2 weeks again and see if I get ANYTHING - aside from a fake plastic egg!!

Have a wonderful day everyone...and since we are close to chick hatching days...BRING ON THE PHOTOS!!

Close to chick hatching days? I've got four month olds, two month olds, one month olds, two week olds and three day olds. I'll bet Beth and Alex have even more.

In November we had zero chickens after the last were destroyed. Right now ....if you count chicks....there are over 100, with another fifty-ish in the incubator. I didn't hatch them all, though.

But never count chicks. Don't count your chickens before they.....lay!

NH... Chicken poop is fertilizer. So let them dig and be merry and fertilize.
And said mini Mafia Guineas are still locked up in a coop. They will be released to fend off my larger Guinea Mafia this weekend. Wish them luck.

TarHeel: you are doing right. Try to get that chick out this morning, if it made it. Hopefully the blood will be absorbed. If the chick is real sticky when you get it out, you can wash it with warm water and dish soap. Then just rub it lightly in a towel and put it back in the incubator to dry and fluff. Keep us posted.

Hollow: Great to hear about Jake !!

YAY..for chicks Wild !
