Do like the time change today.

While I am NOT enjoying the time change, especially while up all night with a sick baby...I will say I am LOVING the time change because last night...TWO (yes, that's right) TWO eggs were in the nesting boxes!! I am pretty sure these are from my POL girls and for some reason my Marans are NOT laying?!? - No mites, not molting, not sure why they haven't kicked back into laying?!?! Any ideas??

We are going to have to process a few of the teenage roosters - just TOO many boys to handle and I don't want them fighting anymore. The 2 main roosters are staying and the largest of the teenagers will be "promoted" to freezer camp this upcoming weekend. One of the guys that my husband works with wants to come over for a "lesson" because he wants to get chickens/ducks/guineas but doesn't want to invest until he knows IF he can do his own processing - he said he isn't paying someone else to do it and if he can't, then he won't.

Not sure WHY DH agreed to this as we are still "fumblers" when it comes to the whole process. I'll let the guys hang out and deal with it....LOL

Made a TON of progress in the garden this weekend!! Built a strawberry patch, finished the "raised" beds - now we just have to top off the soil more, cleaned out the coops, put fresh compost around the fruit trees and started putting the fence up around the garden!! We also plan to allow the biddies to go into the coop with the bigger boys/girls this weekend when we do a pecking order shake up!! Next up...an order of Freedom Ranger meat birds....

Good Morning, Happy Chicken People!

Looks like I'll be doing my morning chores in the dark again for a while. I hate that part of DST. But, the critters are used to being fed at dawn or before. They don't know anything about DST! For them, nothing has changed. And I still need to get to work, so waiting for sunup isn't happening.

But spring is on the way! WooHoo!

Thanks RF & CSB- I knew the risk with this lot only have chicken wire on top, thought I found where it got in yesteday.
I have 2X4 welded wire over my other pens. These were the only LF I have ee"s, have 6 left no roo tho

I have a swap up on the SQ swap that nobody has claimed. One of the items is a pair of buff silkies for pickup, if anybody is interested, I cold deliver them to the swap on May 11.

Hmmm these are a fun new mix/project. They are barred blue egg layers....and some have crests!


I'll also have some black bresse chicks available for MUCH less than GFF.

JD may be interested in those for his customer. They had wanted BRs, but barred birds that lay blue eggs should be appealing to someone who just wants a few backyard egg layers. He's working long hours, but you might want to pm him and offer. I'd really like to see him get this new coop-building business of his off the ground! He's spreading chicken happiness!
