Thanks.. he (Amos the Lab) has never hunted in his life.... we not big hunters.. but he loves to chase squirrels and we got a ton of them around here. So many squirrels and he chases them so often he tore his ACL and vet said unless we could keep him from chasing them there was no way he would not tear it again and would advice against surgery. So now he meanders around limping sometimes, sometimes not. It is kind of sad but he did it to himself. I was thinking maybe I could just tie him up for the warmest part of the day (one to limit his activity and two so the chicks could free range some.) The beagle could stay inside.

Thanks for your advice I really appreciate it!

Whether he has hunted before isn't as important as his bloodline...but if he's a squirrel-chaser and you can't break him of that, then I'd say he's a high risk of being a problem child with chickens!

If it runs, they will chase! If they catch, it likely will die, even if they didn't mean to.

Not to play devil's advocate but my dog(German Shepherd) is an AVID squirrel/stray cat chaser and doens't harm a feather on any of my birds. I started by leaving the chickens in the coop and having her on a leash. I re-directed her DRIVE each time she gave them the dinner look and would submit her until she ignored them. Then I started letting them out.

Currently I have over 100 birds with about 20 teenagers and ducks running around the yard. She ignores them all. She likes to smell them and thinks they are Pez dispensers...they poop, she eats it.

It takes a lot of work, dedication, and consistancy. The Chickens, Ducks, and now Goats are family NOT food conversation works well with my dog....she still chases squirrels and stray cats.

does anyone here hve experience in the rights of minors in custody cases i am in need of some advice

most States before they really have any say so, they must be 14 to 16 years of age. (check your State if not here) Before that, The kids can say all they want, just the Judge rules thinking they know what's best for the kids... No matter what is really best for the kids.

Good luck if they are younger...

Oh, yeah...there's no such thing as 100% on behavior in animals! I'm just saying the risk is higher with those dogs...unless they are trained.

I asked my brother who he uses (they live in Raleigh). He and his wife use Dr. Jerry Bernstein at Raleigh Pediatrics for their three kids. They really like him. My brother didn't know if that practice has any position on the non-vaccination issue, but you could just call and ask. If you decide to use them, let them know Brandon and Janie Roe referred him. 919-872-0250.

Thank you...I'll give them a call!!

I have a question for all of you "veteran" BYCers. If you have something to sell and you only want to post locally, do you post here, or on the BST threads? Just curious, I have some chicks to find homes for and wasn't sure where to post them. I didn't know if I should post them in the other thread because I won't ship or what. So any help you can give me is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I wished you lived closer to me. I have a doctor in Greensboro that agreed to no or delayed vaccinations for my children. It is a hard sell to some but you have to be informed. If they think you are just doing it for fear then they will probably not want you.

I can give you so information if you are interested in having something prepared when you go to meet with the doctor.

Good luck!
