The broodiness is getting started this year. Scrunchy, frizzle bantam cochin mix, has been full broody in an empty nest for several weeks. She is tossed out several times a day, but she is unbreakable. I just want to make sure she is eating well.
Pigie, white bantam cochin, is not clucking, but is in a constant state of readiness. I have to collect any eggs that are in that house often or she will claim them. Pigie is a proven setter and a great mother. Later she will go broody on an empty nest for the summer.
Today Dumpling, mottled d'Uccle, was talking away when a big hen walked past her. Dumpling immediately fuzzed up, squealed, and then started that rythmic clucking. She is still laying and she was back to normal at supper time(6pm), so it should be at least a week away before she is nest bond for the summer.
The big problem is that I have no intentions of raising any bantams this year, just like last year. I have too many bantam hens that are unbreakable broodies. I am hoping Daisy, LF buff Orp, goes broody about the time of Chickenstock. I want to find some dark eggs for her to set on and raise me some layers from.
