North Carolina

Lesson of the day, be careful what you name your pets. Back in November, we had four chicks die due to the cold. Three days later, I realized that we had one chick more than we should have after the recent deaths so I named that extra chick Lazarus.

Since then, I've tried to cull the extra roosters two times by releasing the extra roosters (I've never "Processed" any chickens yet but having so many roosters was taking a toll on the hens) and each time Lazarus has miraculously ended up back in the pen with the hens. Well, last week, the dog killed both roosters that were free and I was down to only ten Chickens; eight hens and two roosters. I had feathers to prove it all over the yard!!

Well I just came in from working out at the pen and imagine my surprise when I spied Lazarus back in the pen after being "Dead" since last week. I have no idea how he keeps coming back to life, not to mention how he keeps getting back in the pen. I guess Lazarus is back to stay this time. If I let another rooster out I will have to let "Red" out since the other rooster is Andy's that he named Hunter. Though if anyone wants Lazarus or Red (both EE's) they are welcomed to come get them.

Happy Easter!

I had fun at the swap, since I wasn't tied to my car! I got to visit, and see what was out there. First time for that. Chatted with BHep, CSB, and RF as usual. Got to meet The Howards and Moore6 for the first time. And of course saw LukesCityHens...the GF is indeed looking like she's got a baby in there. And she's one of those women who looks even cuter when pregnant!

While there I of course picked up the stuff I needed to get at TSC anyway, and that place was busy! Along with feed and a few sundries, I brought home a couple huge funnel cakes!

Now it's house chores, tree, bush, vine and cane planting, and then more house chores!

Good to see everyone! Enjoy your day!

Had a great day. Slow start but sold some stuff. Bought some stuff. Came home with more money than I left with.

My kids love the new birds.
Nice seeing all of you guys.

Good afternoon everyone!

Today we're digging the pond for all the ducks, hope they like it. :) Also, ducklings had their first day outside. The "enclosure" was a bit small, but it was all I could do on short notice. But at least they got to be outside, on grass, and do a bit of grazing.

We got all my fruit plants put in this afternoon. 10 raspberries, two each of apricots, mulberries, persimmons, gooseberries and kiwi. That's it for this year! We already had apples, pears, assorted grapes, figs, blackberries, pecans and hazelnuts. I need more perennial veggies! Tried asparagus when we first moved here, and realized we just don't like it well enough to grow it. Not fans of artichokes, either. I guess we'll stick to annuals for now.

Hubby raided the turkey nest. After a discussion with RF today, I had decided to let her set and see if we could outwit the fire ants this year. But there were four eggs in there, which means the others are laying in that nest while she's trying to set. So they all went into the incubator. Twenty-nine turkey eggs in less than a week. I'll candle next weekend and see if those toms are doing their jobs, or if they're too busy strutting and fighting.

Time to go lock up! Enjoy your evening, everyone!
