I've got hatching going on, including cute, tiny button quail! Don't know how many I'll get....I put 48 eggs into lockdown, but I didn't even try to candle those itty bitty eggs! Cute little things!

Hubby is building cages to hold the turkeys going to WCA. That's all of them. With Bob gone, we'll start anew with a different breed. So I'll have one purebred RP hen, and two hens and two toms that are RP x BR. Plus the POL RIR and Welsummer pullets. Making a tad of space here.

Any requests for baked munchies? I haven't decided what to make yet..... :D

Woo Hoo. I'm a daddy again. Got one that just hatched and not sure how many more will get. Not even sure what kind it is. Was trying to hatch some Silkies and they pulled in any egg they could find near the nest. All my girls except silkies lay brown eggs. Guess I'll figure it out when lay dry out. I think that there are about 5 or 6 more to hatch. Hoping they all do. Never hatched any before.

thank you, my question is this. what do i need to do now. the hens are sitting on them. do i need to show them how to drink and eat like it i hear you guys talk about when you incubate?

Nope. Mom will do that. Make sure there is food and water they can reach when they come off the nest, though. And you'll likely have to refresh their water more frequently, as mom's scratching will knock stuff into it. You'll be wanting to just hang out and watch chicken TV. Watching a broody hen with her young ones is fascinating. :)

ok thanks again. do i need to put chick feed in there besides the layers pellets i have in there? as you can tell this is my first hatch. i will try to post a pic in a little bit.

The starter will be good for mama. She can use the extra nutrient boost after being broody.

You may have to clean the nest once she moves off. That is if she will be sleeping there with the little ones.
