Good morning folks

Like everyone, I grew up doing chores and passed
the tradition on to our children and like me they
didn't like it at the time but appreciate it now and
the lessons learned. I think all kids would like to have
things but not chores and all parents want better for their
kids than what they had when they were kids.........and
to me that is where the problem starts.......some folks
forget the that giving kids chores helps them to learn
skills and be prepared for life. As was said......I'd be a
bad parent if I didn't teach my kids how to care for
themselves and be able to do for themselves.....JMHO

I agree with so many of the other posts, I also grew up doing chores, not farm chores, but chores nonetheless. I learned at a very young age how to read a recipe, start dinner, clean house, etc. I never did learn to love house cleaning though...LOL! My children all have chores, and know better than to complain about boredom, and electronics are a privilege.

Dutch, yes I used it through last summer. I meaured off 4 feet and built a wall and put chickenwire across it. I made a door for people acess. they can go out the pop door to get to the run anytime they want. With the fan in there it seems to really help. by leaving the doors open and having that fan run when it hits the set temp, it really pulls a good breeze through the shed. The fan is one of those actic fans from Lowes. Didn't really notice that much of a jump in my electric bill either. Hope this helps.

I've never worked with metal before.
But for $300 for a 10x8 shed I can't really beat it... the wood coops that price are less than 4'x4'.....

Chores teach responsibility. How can one expect a child to grow up with any sort of responsibility and keep a job if it isn't taught at home. I am a teacher............need I start? Parents these days {not ALL but some} are not doing their children any service by doing everything for them, not teaching them how to be responsible, the value of a dollar, how to cook/clean/do laundry -- I could go on FOR DAYS!

I'm so glad we're all on the same page around here. It is good to know that there is a group of people that are making good of their end of the bargain in raising children to be contributing members of society.

Thank you all for your lovely comments of support!! It really means a lot to me!! I will say I am confident that my children will learn the value of hard work and when it comes time for them to be a contributing member of society, they will have the work ethic that many children these days lack. You all are wonderful!!

I have chickens holding out on me and laying in the woods (heard the egg song last night and watched one hen walk out of the woods just a calling away)...so if anyone wants to give their kids a scavenger hunt...let me know!! LOL I have about 100 acres of woods around me that they could be laying in (although I am pretty sure they are laying out front...which is a fraction of an acre). They could look for duck eggs while they are at it too!! LOL

I am READY for a few days of rain free, sunny weather so I can take the kids outside to play without having to bathe everyone and wash the floors!! LOL That being said, I was TOLD by several BYC'ers that I MUST do diapers so they would get rain...LOL Therefore, it's their fault, and they know who they are!!

Why do women ask our opinion and then do the exact opposite?

Well, against my opinion she decided to be induced...so I guess "we" have to go to the hospital at 5:45am tomorrow morning. So I guess we will have baby tomorrow-ish!

On the chores thing, I know for sure I hated chores but some how pops made them fun, I think my generation is real close to the first with video games and all that mess. I remember we had an Atari and dad told us to clean up the living room, we decided to go out and play with our feinds, came home and he had taken every "fun" thing we owned to salvation army. As kids is was terrible but as an adult I want to thank my parents. I guess hindsight really is 20/20
