Today's not over with, so perhaps we'll have a baby on your birthday...highly unlikely as I haven't dropped...but I can always hope, right?!? LOL. I hope your day is EXTRA special!!

Chicken predator question:
We had "something" drop/leave us a present (see below) and left us one single "footprint" and it's not very clear.

Do you have ANY idea what might have left the print?!? (It's not the clearest print, but it was the ONLY one there). It was outside our broody/quarantine box but didn't attempt (yet) to get in, so I wasn't sure if it was going for the snake or just checking things out. I'd appreciate any thoughts you might have.

And because it was too cute NOT to share...Momma taking her babies out for their FIRST escapade!! The chicks ran for the grass and started scratching and pecking right away!!

Moores6 Happy Birthday!!!!

Newhomesteader - not to be gross, but what did the "present" look like? Like big dog poo or middle size dog/cat poo? We have had fox and coyote issues this year

none of them have gotten to the chickens, but I am very careful about locking them up every night. I believe that fox looks more like middle size dog poo and coyote like big dog. Someone else might have better info... this is just my limited experience.
Your momma and babies are too cute!

Coop Scoop Boogie - I candled 3 eggs last night - just a small sample and all three look GREAT!!! I am so excited! they have been almost a week.

Happy Thursday everyone!!!

It is to avoid the chemicals. The tracts are seperate till the vent. If it were possible with dead worms then there would be a constant chance of poop getting into eggs as well.

Egg with worm scenario: If a bird is heavy infested a live worm can crawl into the cloaca and into the egg/reproductive tract. This would allow a worm to get into an egg at the beginning of the building process. This is extremely rare and only in birds that are extremely heavily infested and the worms would have to be alive.

Matt

Thank you Matt!! How are your babies doing??

Happy Bday Moore6!! Hope its a great day for you.

It is already hot here but at least there is a breeze. Got chicken chores done early today so I can work on getting stuff ready for our horse camp in a couple weeks!

My boys went fishing last night and decided they wanted to swim in the lake instead. So, we are headed into to town today to find some rafts/floats for them to go out on. I doubt they will be brave enough to camp out down there but they say they are going to. The last couple times they chickened out :)

Umm, that kinda looks like a deer print from my angle. I'm tilting my head to the right to look at it, like the two little cleft toes are pointing right. Am I looking at it correctly. Do you have a picture of the poo, that would be most telling. Dogs, cats and racoons have differently shaped scat.

Also, if you could give a general size of that print, it would help.
