North Carolina

Good luck on getting baby out! DO NOT get induced until 41+ weeks, its just so much better to wait for the baby to come when ready unless there is a true medical indication.
It is raining again here at home, and we have a short trip to the coast planned this weekend to scope out some rental apartments for me. I GOT A MIDWIFERY JOB!!! Its full-time, at Naval Hospital Camp Lejeune, I am pretty excited, but sad that I wont get to see my boyfriend, son, cats, dog and chickens every day. So they (the people) will visit me some and I will come home about weekly to visit them. Also our van decided it was done (needs more fix than I want to put into it), so we are buying a pick-up truck next week.
It's nice out this way. I'm about 45 minutes south from Camp Lejeune. Sounds like a really great opportunity. I had a midwife for my first delivery at Womack Army Hospital back in 1999. Good luck with finding a new vehicle, we had the same thing happen to us about three months ago.

Hi everyone!
Hope you all are staying dry! I can't get in touch with the kid caring for my animals so hopefully they didn't float away!
I hope everyone has a fabulous 4th of July!
Our flight leaves out of Baltimore tomorrow morning, so I'll talk to you all in a week.

Luke-- your son is getting so big, what a cutie!!!
Homesteader-- Good luck with the baby hope she (I thought it was a she), gets here soon! Can't wait to see pics!

Good Morning, Happy Chicken People!

The wet has finally soaked through here. We'll be hauling sand and soil today, trying to get the poultry above sea level. We've never had wet floors in my chicken houses before!

Hope your day is more relaxing! Enjoy the holiday!

Good morning folks

After assessing this morning and checking the weather...and being totally blinded by this weird fireball in the sky...we will wait to haul sand until things hopefully dry off a bit. This weekend will be sand-hauling weekend.

We are having the same problem with the wetness. When we planned out where the coop and run would go, it was on a higher part of the yard, but I think nothing is safe with all of the rain we have got. I plan to add soil or sand to their run as well to make sure it doesn't get so wet next time. It finally started to dry out yesterday and today it's looking much better.

I have finally had a chance to get some pics of the chicken housing that my DH has so diligently worked on for me. I am so thankful that he is able to build like this. I help as I can but he has done all of it himself and sometimes with a friend of ours. I just love the sand because it makes it SOO much easier to keep clean and and thus, minimize the nasty flies. I've still got a few things I'm tinkering with but so far, it is working well.

The baby area allows the younger chicks to play and try their wings without being bossed around by the older hens. When there are no babies, I just leave the door open and the hens will lay eggs in those nest boxes.

This (above) is in the big run area looking into the baby area.

Baby area with nest boxes for later.

Other side of baby area with cages for youngest ones.

West half of the larger run/roost area.

Rooster living quarters and guineas at night.

You cant really see the 3 separate rooster pens in there, but there are 3 and then where you see the guinea is a large open area for them to go at night. The roosters get that area during the day. Today, I attached several 10' dog run panels to the outside of the rooster area so they can go outside in the grass if they want. It also gives me another place to put the ones who decide to act mean!

Hopefully, I can find someone to take the 10 roosters I don't need and there will be a lot less rooster drama....ugh! Too bad there isn't a way to get all the hatching eggs to be hens.....

Happy 4th!

I have FINALLY cut the front grass this morning. Now I am heading back out to start on the back acres.

We had a ton of rain here this morning but the grass desperately needs cutting. I'm tempted to let a few of the horses in here to knock it back some! LOL!

Happy mowing!!
