Happy 4th if July to everyone! Thanks to all who have played a special role in iur freedoms, gosh it is great to be an American!

We have been out of town for over a week now, and I am missing my chicken & gsrden routine! Badly! We have a house & chicken sitter, as well as a garden keeper. We are blessed! However, this rain has GOT to give. It has been raining where we are just as much as in NC! WHEW! Can't wait to get HOME in 4 days :)

Beautiful Coop! I wish I had someone for my rooster that I need to rehome but He is just having to make due for now! we are waiting for our youngest ones to get big enough so everyone can have some ladies!

I have finally had a chance to get some pics of the chicken housing that my DH has so diligently worked on for me. I am so thankful that he is able to build like this. I help as I can but he has done all of it himself and sometimes with a friend of ours. I just love the sand because it makes it SOO much easier to keep clean and and thus, minimize the nasty flies. I've still got a few things I'm tinkering with but so far, it is working well.

The baby area allows the younger chicks to play and try their wings without being bossed around by the older hens. When there are no babies, I just leave the door open and the hens will lay eggs in those nest boxes.

This (above) is in the big run area looking into the baby area.

Baby area with nest boxes for later.

Other side of baby area with cages for youngest ones.

West half of the larger run/roost area.

Rooster living quarters and guineas at night.

You cant really see the 3 separate rooster pens in there, but there are 3 and then where you see the guinea is a large open area for them to go at night. The roosters get that area during the day. Today, I attached several 10' dog run panels to the outside of the rooster area so they can go outside in the grass if they want. It also gives me another place to put the ones who decide to act mean!

Hopefully, I can find someone to take the 10 roosters I don't need and there will be a lot less rooster drama....ugh! Too bad there isn't a way to get all the hatching eggs to be hens.....

Happy 4th!

Thank you! I just had to turn someone down who wanted to buy all 11 of my roosters tomorrow :( He said his "woman" would choose what she liked and they'd eat the rest so I just cannot do that. They are like our pets and my son freaked out when he saw that the guy wanted to eat them.

I may have them for a while, unfortunately.

@atmaclean- i flippin love ur coop setup i cant wait till i have an actual building for my pens

Thank you! We used rough cut lumber which was very cheap and used tin off a barn roof that my DH picked up. We got all the doors used from an antique place for $10-20. We did have to buy some treated wood but the majority was made very inexpensively. The original coup has a little "doggy door" so the original hens can go into the large run area if they want to. It is funny how they refuse to go to bed in the newer part. They always sleep in their original coup on their roosts! LOL!

It is very easy to keep clean and that was one of my main priorities - even on these rainy, yucky days... Thanks again!

I need to design the perfect -lol- coop and build it when I get rich -also lol-
Anyways here r my new cornishes now r they meat cornishes and r they LDL or bantam

Hellooooooo!
Happy 4th and fireworks day!
I'm Star; I'm relatively new to BYC.
When I was growing up we had chickens and goats on and off for several years and as soon as I moved out I worked on getting my own chickens.
I have 7 pullets/hens, 1 turkey hen, 1 rooster and too many chicks and young birds to count! (Chicken math, what'cha gonna do...)

I'm in Sanford, super close to the Harnett County line. Tammyfarms lives close to me!!!

So yeah, just wanted to say hi and such. :)

Good Morning, Happy Chicken People!

Welcome to the new folks!

Farrah, the reason nobody has responded is that one year it might be one way, and the next year the other way. Hard to predict. I'd suggest maybe trying to sell just a couple younger. If you have no problem getting your price, sell them all so you aren't feeding them. Good luck.

Enjoy your day!
