I also love that you have a place for your guineas... I really want some but I am afraid they would not coexist with the chickens very well.... maybe next spring : )

I trained the guineas to come in at night using millet. They LOVE it. They know that they will get it every evening when they come to the coop. I just did that because I lost half my flock to something (before we got our LGD) and didn't want to lose anymore when they roosted outdoors at night. I also have 22 baby keets growing out right now and I will, hopefully, be able to train them to go in that coop at night too. Their baby area is next door to the big guineas so they see each other every night. I will have to add more perches in there when I move the younger keets in!

As far as moving all your chickens together....you could just do it in one fowl swoop (no pun intended) and move them all at once. It may be a good idea to do it in the evening before they go to bed so they wake up in the new house together. If possible, you could let them beside one another for a few days so they get used to seeing each other a while before you remove the divider. I've had success doing it both ways. Fortunately, my hens seem to do fine with the new young pullets joining the flock. They still are higher in the pecking order but they don't harm the younger ones, just teach them their proper manners.

My trouble is with my teenage cockerels! They can be little demons to one another. I let them free range with the hens and pullets until they start harrassing them and/or chasing them. Then, they go into the rooster compound and I try to put them in with a group where they will get along. It seems I have to shift them around every so often when one of them decides to get too big for his britches...errr...feathers.

Hellooooooo!
Happy 4th and fireworks day!
I'm Star; I'm relatively new to BYC.
When I was growing up we had chickens and goats on and off for several years and as soon as I moved out I worked on getting my own chickens.
I have 7 pullets/hens, 1 turkey hen, 1 rooster and too many chicks and young birds to count! (Chicken math, what'cha gonna do...)

I'm in Sanford, super close to the Harnett County line. Tammyfarms lives close to me!!!

So yeah, just wanted to say hi and such.

Hello everyone,
sad day here at Shadow Oak, in torrential down pour this after noon 4 inches of water flooded my broody pen and 4 chicks drowned :hit I feel so horrible :(
all this rain has reeked havoc on my little farm, everything is flooded and bogged with sticky mud. Its quiet depressing.
I hope ya'll are fairing better than I.
I did manage to save this little guy
400

My turkey attacked this little turtle, jumping on him until he was sucked and stuck in the mud, I got him out washed him off and placed him on the other side of the yard where he sought safety beanth my cousin's scooter. :) most beautiful markings I have ever seen on a turtle.

awwewww i loveeeeee turtles and have a 300 gallon tub that i keep some in in the summer and let them go in my pond to hibernate evry winter lol if u need any info on them let me know if he is ur first and u are keeping him

Moomoo, those are the meat type, makes a great meal but doesn't sell for much money. And they don't breed true either, hence their name cornish rock cross. But I have found that if you cross them (if they live long enough to reproduce) with a big breed bird (I used buff orps) the offspring tends to be a big bird that grows faster than the other breed but not as fast as the meaties.

ugh ok thanks ill probably sell them then at the next swap i dont really even like them they r crazy! but i did see some white laced smaller ones that sold for alot more should have got them
