Lots happening on here today.

Dutch, hope your kitty is doing better.

Matt, sorry about the wild cat issue. It is never easy to kill something even when it is killing your livestock. Glad it was a clean kill though.

DTS, good luck with the coop. I really like the ideas for an elevated design.

Since there has been much discussion about predators I feel the need to comment on one aspect of this as it something I feel very strongly about. Someone has already commented - but I just need to add a little more because I think it is so important. If you decide to shoot a predator, whether with a gun or a bow or whatever, please know what you are shooting at, what is behind it and where the bullets are going. There are stories all over the media about folks getting shot from stray bullets and not all that long ago a girl got shot with a stray arrow. You can't be careful enough when operating a firearm. Also, know your local, federal and state laws. Ignorance of the law is never an excuse for breaking it.

Our neighbor had a cat wander up to their property this week. He is very tame and loves attention. Sadly, it is obvious that someone dropped him off to fend for himself. She is looking for a home for him if anyone wants a young male cat. My guess is that he is around 6 months old. He is scrawny right now but she is feeding him and has even said she will pay to have him neutered if it will help to find him a home.

Well said. If that cat had gone another 3 feet up the drive I would have had to let it go. There would have been a slim chance of a ricoshay towards a neighbor's house. Even though I am sure of my shooting I would never take a chance.

Also, know your weapon.

I agree please know/ think about where your bullets could fly. Not that long ago a nneighbor in the field behind us was shooting at coyote, his bullet missed and lodged into our house. Thankfully no one was back there when it happened, none of my animals were hurt. But if had just stopped for a second to think 'hey there is house there.....' I wouldn't have a buck shot on the back of my house.

Matt, Thanks for being a responsible gun owner - we need more of you!

Good point about knowing your weapon. People who are "experts" shoot themselves/floors/walls/others more often than you would think.

Wow I can't sleep tonight, don't know what is keeping me up, o yeah the very lound around tree frogs, Katydids, crickets, cicadas,.... not sure what, but it sure is noisy out there tonight. I have my window wide open, I truly love the sounds out here in the country. Ahhhhhhh

Good Morning, Happy Chicken People!

I have so much to do today I don't know where to start! Ugh. And it's mostly the dreaded housework! Must get done, though.

Hope your day is filled with better things.

Good morning all!

Busy day planned here as well. Coops must be cleaned. House should be cleaned.

Wild - I am jealous! It is so hot and humid down here we can't even consider opening the windows at night. The night critters were out and loud the past few nights too. I love the summer night sounds. They can be loud though.

Welcome new folks!

Have a great day everyone
