She might be an ee. They have no set "look".  EEs are a cross, so they could have any leg color and body color. They could have any combo of muffs/beard to none at all. She looks more penciled like a campine, than laced like a dark brahma to me. So I would wait for an egg, but she is probably an ee. What type of comb does she have?

She doesn't have a pea comb that's for sure. It's a single. Just sits up there on her head. Pointy and hasn't grown too much.

I've only ever seen the Brahma's with the feathered legs and their bodies fluffier.
EE's have that color of legs and can be any color feathers, but other chickens have dark legs too.
It almost looks like a silver penciled variety from the pattern, but I can't see it all that clearly.
But the only ones I know of are cochins (not that because leg feathers), wyandottes & rocks but their legs are both light.
So, yeah, I have been no help!
What type of comb?

Single

Anyone have an idea of why this guy may be limping? He has not been injured that I know of - he has been in a separate pen with his brothers and hasn't been out to free range for a few weeks. This started about a week and a half ago and has gotten worse until now he basically does not use it at all. He is eating and drinking and getting around but mostly just uses the one leg and his opposite wing to balance. I have examined the leg and can feel any heat or swelling, no bumble foot or anything like that. It may be up in his hip but I can't tell. I tried manipulating the tendons to see if it had slipped but it didn't feel like it had....?? Angela
Oddly! I have a baby chick...the one that is 8 weeks now and got hurt last weekend but she's been fine and today she limping too! It's so frustrating because she has been completely by herself and I can't figure out why she's doin this!

Anyone have experience with Red Sex Link chicks???
My husband got one in our last order, and it will be 1 week since hatching tomorrow morning.
The more I look at it, I really think they sent me a rooster....
But seriously could a HATCHERY miss-sex a SEX LINK CHICK????
I've never seen them as chicks, and I know the hens have some white on them, but my gut is telling me this is a rooster.
I know it's early to tell, but I will have totally lost faith in having female silkies if they mess up a sex link!!!!

It's only 6 days old, but it acts like a male. It is going around trying to start fights with my older chicks and my turkeys who just walk away wanting nothing to do with this little guy. It only has it's wing tip feathers, but they are pure white, no sign of red highlights or anything on the feathers. Usually light yellow chicks like this turn into white, the reds are usually a darker yellow from the start. There is some red on the body, but it's just really light. It could be a girl, it's just acting like a boy. It walks up straight too. And it has no tail feathers where all the others from that hatch date have them besides my wyandotte (which I really hope is a girl, the last time they messed up on that one and I didn't catch it until 10 weeks...)
I'm going to go take a pic real quick, let me know what you think.....

Hey guys I need some help with sexing my Lavender Orpingtons too....
I have 4 left-- 3 we thought were girls, 1 we thought was a boy.
The "boy" is just now getting a tail while the 3 girls have big tails.
One of the "girls" seems to be getting red wattles before the others.
They are all about 6 weeks old now.
I still think the first is a male just because it doesn't have a tail at all, but I'm starting to think the second is a male now, too.
Which makes no sense to me since besides the wattles it looks exactly like the other 2 that I think are girls.
I asked the forum awhile ago to take guesses on gender and everyone had the same thoughts as me #1 was a boy and the last 3 were girls.
Here they are now:

#1 (the one we all thought was a roo & barely a tail)

#2 One we thought was a girl, but is getting red.....

#3 One of the other "girls" for comparisson

I really want to get rid of 3 of them and get down to my one, but I want to be sure my one is a girl and I want to accurately be able to tell someone what the other 3 are.

Also, anyone know anything about sexing turkeys??? I have some broad breasted white turkeys that are a couple weeks old and all look the same....

Questuon about my Leghorn Lady that went missing last night. My DH looked for her for hours (I am out of state) and could not find her anywhere. Didnt find any sign of feathers... so I was hopeful she would come out this morning.

She did.

So my wise ol' DH decided to camp out in his chair close to roosting time tonight to see what she did. She flew way up in the tree to roost. He coaxed her down and put her up.

I don't really think roosting in the tree is the safest, how do we keep her from doing that?

Put her in a coop for the night/every night.

I hear leghorns are one of the best at flying/roosting high.
My run is covered with bird netting at 7' so they can't get much higher than that.
It's totally fenced in with a top so I leave my coop open for them to put themselves away/go out in the morning.
If you have a coop that closes and let them free range during the day I would lock them in at night.

You know if while driving your car down the road at night, you hit a lighting bug/ firefly on your windshield, its body will glow till it dries in the wind as you keep driving. I have never hit one till last night, who knew?
