I've gotten eggs from Ebay several times and have had really great hatch rates. However, the Rhodebar eggs that I got ended up being questionable....My rooster had the wrong kind of comb for a Rhodebar so I have no idea if he was a pure rhodebar. I guess you just never know if one of their other breeds of roosters may have gotten in with the hens when you buy them off Ebay.....? My other chickens seem to be pure breeds. Also, you may not know if they are pure breeds until they start laying and you see the color of the eggs. I know its a bummer but if you don't mind them not being 100%, it is no big deal. I just enjoy the pretty hens and the pretty eggs and am not really interested in selling chicks as a business. If I decide to order eggs again, I will probably find someone on BYC who raises them and get eggs from them. I did that with my Norwegian Jaerhons and Ameraucanas and they are definitely pure breeds and laying beautiful, correct eggs
On those black chickens.....I saw them on Facebook a while back and folks had made comments on the prices of them! Unreal! I can't imagine that those poor things would do well in this NC heat and humidity.....my english orphingtons really seem to suffer in the heat...I keep fans going and its very shady around their coop and our house but they like to go beside the openings in the brick under the house when it is super hot because cool air comes out from under there.
I have some teenager pure Rhodebar roosters. Want some?
