I've gotten eggs from Ebay several times and have had really great hatch rates. However, the Rhodebar eggs that I got ended up being questionable....My rooster had the wrong kind of comb for a Rhodebar so I have no idea if he was a pure rhodebar. I guess you just never know if one of their other breeds of roosters may have gotten in with the hens when you buy them off Ebay.....? My other chickens seem to be pure breeds. Also, you may not know if they are pure breeds until they start laying and you see the color of the eggs. I know its a bummer but if you don't mind them not being 100%, it is no big deal. I just enjoy the pretty hens and the pretty eggs and am not really interested in selling chicks as a business. If I decide to order eggs again, I will probably find someone on BYC who raises them and get eggs from them. I did that with my Norwegian Jaerhons and Ameraucanas and they are definitely pure breeds and laying beautiful, correct eggs :)

On those black chickens.....I saw them on Facebook a while back and folks had made comments on the prices of them! Unreal! I can't imagine that those poor things would do well in this NC heat and humidity.....my english orphingtons really seem to suffer in the heat...I keep fans going and its very shady around their coop and our house but they like to go beside the openings in the brick under the house when it is super hot because cool air comes out from under there.

I have some teenager pure Rhodebar roosters. Want some?

DH wants to sell the rest of my chickens! My answer to that is H no!!! I can't even believe he asked that stupid question! It's like the last crying session I had when he decides to trade them for a stupid generator that doesn't run NEVER HAPPENED!!! My fellow ladies...what can I do MODESTLY to make him see how happy they make me? I am the one who takes care of them anyway! He doesn't help to a DARN thing for them!!! Except make a dumb looking coop for them that won't even keep them dry when it rains! And I had to put plastic tubs in it for them to sleep and lay in because he's dumb and burned their boxes! Urg! Some people just don't get it. I am ATTACHED to my babies and more attached to them at this point than to him because I'm mad at him. I don't see why it's that big of a deal if their not a "burden" on him anyway!

Sbrook you better than me. Because as my chickens slowly went, his stuff would have went fast! (than you wouldn't have had some much to pack :) ) I would tell him that if I couldn't have something that made me happy while I was with him, than I would have that something without him.
But like I said that's me. Good luck

Ditto. My DH knows far better than to do such a thing! He may complain about them occasionally, but he knows better than to do something so mean. I'm really sorry you are going through such a hard time.

Anyone have experience with Red Sex Link chicks??? My husband got one in our last order, and it will be 1 week since hatching tomorrow morning. The more I look at it, I really think they sent me a rooster.... But seriously could a HATCHERY miss-sex a SEX LINK CHICK???? I've never seen them as chicks, and I know the hens have some white on them, but my gut is telling me this is a rooster. I know it's early to tell, but I will have totally lost faith in having female silkies if they mess up a sex link!!!! It's only 6 days old, but it acts like a male. It is going around trying to start fights with my older chicks and my turkeys who just walk away wanting nothing to do with this little guy. It only has it's wing tip feathers, but they are pure white, no sign of red highlights or anything on the feathers. Usually light yellow chicks like this turn into white, the reds are usually a darker yellow from the start. There is some red on the body, but it's just really light. It could be a girl, it's just acting like a boy. It walks up straight too. And it has no tail feathers where all the others from that hatch date have them besides my wyandotte (which I really hope is a girl, the last time they messed up on that one and I didn't catch it until 10 weeks...) I'm going to go take a pic real quick, let me know what you think.....
We bought one in March, well she turned out to be a he:( and our chick looked exactly like that one.
