They're cute! What breeds are they?
Well, the Lavender is an Ameraucana, and the black one, we are not sure yet. We have two roosters, one Lavender Ameraucana and one RIR. The hens are assorted RIR, Black Sexlink and Black Jersey Giant. The black one has a white spot on its chest and belly with white wingtips. Looks like it is wearing a Tuxedo.

Lost three chickens today.  Plus one in intensive care now.  Stupid dogs from across the street came today and went into my coop and got them.  I'd left it open because there were no dogs out and the chickens were all huddled up in the coop because they were cold.  My dogs and the one that was in the picture earlier this week weren't out.  Worst part is they did it right in front of my two and four year old kids.  They seem to have recovered, but I haven't.  No more free ranging around here.  Those a-hole dogs are NEVER over here, but of course the one time I leave the chickens unlocked unattended....

I think my brahma baby will pull through, but way too soon to tell.  Looks like they just ripped her tail off, skin and all.  She's got a pretty good sized open wound, but doesn't look like it's more than skin deep.  Any treatment tips are welcome.

Anyway, sad day around here.  Hope you all fared better.

inlaws are in town too.  They bought the boys some more chicks.  So now I have 7 Orpington chicks brooding in the bathroom, and my brahma in the shower.

I am so sorry... I know what that is like ... but it was my dog!

To his credit, there probably would have been more losses if it weren't for "the Captain". He did a good job distracting the dogs (a boxer and a dachsund and a 60lb mutt) so the others could get to safety. They just didn't get high enough fast enough I guess. :( The patient seems to be doing well though, so hopefully I'll still have two pullets to work with for now - with the others coming of age in the spring. Starting to think 3 of the 7 replacement chicks are roos though. :( Anyone want some BO boys? Only $3 each. :) They're 2 weeks old on Wednesday.
