I've tried the winter lights, extending morning. We quit doing it as it seemed too hard on the girls.

I asked Santa for an egg scale, which he brought. One of the cute chicken shaped ones. But...he also hunted everywhere and got me a lovely antique egg scale! That one he said is for my office. Don't know where it's going in there, but looks like it's going!

Sorry about your uncle. I have never added light to my coops. I get what I get and that's it. But one reason that most hens stop or really slow down on egg laying during their molt is because their body puts everything into making new feathers, which I think, is the main reason it takes most a little bit of time after a molt to get back to laying.

I put a 40 watt energy saver bulb with a reflector out in the run. It is set to come on at 430 am and goes off at 730 am. They see the light from the coop and come outside. Had the light going about 10 days now and egg production has increased from 2-3 a day to 8-10 a day. So far they haven't complained about the extra daylight...

Good morning folks

And so the morning after the rush let down.........a normal
day after all the rush and craziness that has been in the air
......unless you are a cashier at a big box type store......... it's
now the start of the "after" sales and if you folks it gets crazy
for Christmas you ain't seen those "savers" at the "after" sales.
I think I'll just stay out of town for awhile.

I'm staying out of town with you! Ugh! I did most of my shopping online this year because of the crowds and those horribly pitched Salvation Army bells. I wish they'd get some bells that aren't painful to the ear! I think I did two shopping trips in town and that was it. But "First Christmas" was fun, and I had chosen some gifts that were winners, so I was happy! "Second Christmas" is tomorrow with family in Georgia. Actually second and third, as we go from my family to Chris' family. It's an all day affair. Chris and Amy went down yesterday afternoon. That gives Amy visiting time and Chris hunting time. Tomorrow early, Joe and I leave. Tomorrow evening, Joe, Chris and I return. Amy's BF is flying down tomorrow, and they'll come back up Saturday. Joe and his GF leave for DC Saturday. Amy and her BF leave for DC Sunday. Joe and GF return on the first or second, and Joe stays one night before heading back to Boone.

And I'm tired just thinking about it. Good to see everyone, but the whirlwind in-and-outs just wear me out.

ALL MY DAUGHTER'S GIFTS ARE GOING BACK TO SANTA!!!!!
After years of wanting a really nice tv-- I FINALLY bought one on a black Friday deal for a 60" smartv. My DH just put all the packing stuff/boxes in recycle Christmas Eve. We haven't even made our first payment on it, and my 2 1/2 year old threw a temper tantrum and threw her toy laptop at the tv and shattered the LED screen!!!!!
It is completely broken, the screen won't come on, the cost of repair is the same as a new tv, and obviously warranty won't cover any of it.
I don't think I have ever been so mad!!!

Calling the repair man today for the heat, hopefully they can come out and it's not too crazy expensive, we just replaced the whole system July of last year. Thanks for the suggestion on thermostat, I went to Lowes this morning & bought one, but unfortunately that didn't help!

DST-- Sorry about your uncle! I'm glad you had a good Christmas with him!

Arrrgggghhhh!!!!!

Something got after my roosters. One chocolate orp was in the yard, half of them were at the barn, and the rest in the front pasture sheep shed. One puff of chocolate feathers. One puff of splash feathers. And two big puffs of black and white feathers...and Sterling is dead. My gorgeous Silver Sussex. Whatever it was ate on neck and crop. Didn't go for breast meat like a hawk. Also got him under low branches, so unlikely to be a hawk, although not impossible. Sigh. Had to be during the morning. And it was in the pasture, so not where the dogs can go. I have no idea. He wasn't a small bird. Didn't weigh him, but DS guessed maybe as much as fifteen pounds.

He was my favorite of all my roosters. I'm bummed.
