If he's still alive and still has a full crop, but it doesn't look like his food has been eaten, take his food away. He might have an impacted crop. A day without food won't kill him but will allow his crop to empty. If his crop doesn't empty by tonight, than its impacted and you will have to help him with that.  Hope hes doing better for you.

Thank you for this advice! It actually did cross my mind when I was setting his quarantine coop up yesterday that his crop could be impacted. He honestly didn't seem very interested in food but since I put some honey and oregano oil in it I was hoping he would at least nibble a little. I'm about to go check on him. I sprinkled sunflower seeds on top of his food so it will be really obvious if he's eaten anything.

Have a marvelous day everyone! We're off to look at a house this afternoon! Yayyyy! :)
It's on less than an acre but! it is on a lake and I'm thinking I could do something like Mumsy's romantic garden and create a little haven for me and the chooks. It's not our ideal but it's our second best option so far. :)

Thank you everyone for the coop suggestions! I think I've found some that I like the looks of. Meanwhile, the pesky chicken eating raccoon has finally been apprehended! I will sleep a little better tonight.

I still have 2 frizzels up for sale or trade if anyone is interested. 1 boy 1 girl. I would like to keep them together.

I think you were right about it being a crop issue. And if this is the case it could have been going on for several days without my noticing! Had a busy work week and really only had time to feed and water and check for eggs during daylight hours and didn't notice any abnormal behaviour. I am really thinking he had impacted or sour crop. I've read impacted crop can make it difficult for a chicken to breathe and that would actually explain the funny noise he made yesterday during testing that he (nor any of my other chickens) had ever made before. I do not think it was MG after all! But he did die in the night. Ugh so sad. If only I had realized what it was yesterday maybe I could've saved him. :(

If you were nearer to me, I'd say get it at the place I get mine at. The feed store near me (in Burlington) sells 40# bags of food grade DE for (if I remember correctly) around $16.00. Best price I've seen so far.

Anyone know if $289 for 330 feet of 4 foot high goat fencing is a good price? It's a better price than Lowes, but I'm wondering if I should continue looking for a better price, or take that one?

Hope everyone is doing well! I'm glad the rain is over, just wish the temps were a bit higher, my Fibromyalgia doesn't like these cold temps.

Hey we wait till tractor supply does the 10% off everything sale
(Sometimes 15-20%)
And then buy field fence. Normal is $129 for 330 ft roll field fence so minus the percentage off
=best deal anywhere
This is for 48" 4 ft generic field fence. Brand name is more expensive.
:)
I'm a bit of a bargain shopper hehe

Sorry about your rooster.

Thank you! And thank you for helping me figure out what was wrong! Better late than never? I am glad I can rule out MG/MS as the cause. Not enough symptoms for it.. But it was all I had to blame it on. So I am relieved even though I am sad that my bf's favorite chicken died as a result of my lack of knowledge :(
We decided that when we move we will get a serama rooster for our resident awesome bantam rooster for the ladies. It's going to feel strange walking outside and not hearing his sweet crowing. :(

ISO keets.

Mama went to nest a few nights ago which I could not find. Late this afternoon, I was determined to set out again, despite the brambles. I found a pile of her feathers, which I'm not sure was a survivable attack. Also found a decapitated white (and the head later; body and head brought back to me by my really smart border collie after being asked to find them- she didn't kill; my guess is a fox}, and missing Dinner, my big white male. No sight of him or his Blu Koted feathers.
