Awesome! I'd love to see pics :) 8 dozen eggs, you guys must have huge incubators!!!

I need a bigger incubator! I didn't do the math too well on the eggs I'm getting this weekend. I have 42 spots on my automatic egg turner (I just have one of those little incubators), and with extras I should have about 60 eggs. Haha and I finally broke my broody! Has anyone found their hatch rate to be lower when they hand turned vs using the automatic turner? Obviously the turner is more convenient, but it seems like the constant slight movement would be more effective then just turning 3 times a day?

A hen does not move the eggs constantly so there really is no
need to move them on a constant basis. A hen will move the
eggs often and some will move the eggs every time they settle back
onto the nest and while sitting on the nest. Automatic egg turners
are nice to use when you can't be home to turn the eggs often
or when you are doing a large hatch like some folks.

Okay thank you!
I guess I will hand turn them then :)

How long do the flock swaps go on in East Fayetteville (like into the summer?)
There's no way I can keep all these chicks!

Surprisingly no damage here either but definitely have a muddy coop!

AAANNND, I came home to new chicks yesterday!! I was VERY surprised about that. This hen had gotten off her clutch at 2 weeks and started sitting on fresh eggs. The eggs were still slightly warm to the touch when I discovered it so I isolated her and put her back on them. There are at least four but I think more. I'll do a count today once I am sure everything is done hatching :) Still have another broody, Mother Clucker, that will hatch hers over the weekend. Last year she successfully hatched 10 so...need to figure out what to do there...I've only got one chicken tractor. I have one mama with a couple of 2 week old Brahma chicks that may just need to go with the flock early...

Thank you at least for replying ...believe it or not,,,that helped..I'm just at the point that I may give up some of my younger chicks. I have 6 EE and 11 BCM's....I had planned on taking the roos to a swap anyway and that will cut down on the number but I;ve got to get the to that point first ! LOL Looking at the sunshine right now. I can't move their little kennel by myself but I hope the get it moved today,, They will be more comfortable then. I have almost got the smaller kennel set up for when the weather gets moved out. Again, thank you for your words.

Quote: Don't give up. EVERYBODY that has a run and has gotten this rain the last few days, more en-likely has mud. Like my chickens, my turkeys have inside and outside as they please, I have one turkey hen who will sit her butt in the mud puddle (not just mud) and lay her eggs

. Good luck with the kennel move and if you need help telling the gender of your chicks, we should be able to help you.
