I've got a few spare roos to sell, if anyone here is interested. Two of each: Black English Orpingtons, Gold-laced English Orpingtons, and Chocolate English Orpingtons. The chocolates are mid-sized. I also have one chocolate hen. All are a year or less.

I also have a surplus of Splash English Orpington chicks. (Never thought I'd say That!). Splash rooster over blue and splash hens. Oh, and some rare Golden Cuckoo Marans chicks, too. Fewer of those.

How old are your CM chicks? I am looking for pullets. I ordered 9 BCM's and I''m afraid that I'm ending up with mostly cockrels !! My DD and I are going to spit the pullets of marans so I'm going to end up with even less of the pullets. I paid well for the day old chicks....but will never ever do the chick thing again....too many unknowns LOL

Any cheap but effective recomendations for lice? I notice a pretty good size patch of eggs under my lavender sebright roo's chin/neck this morning
5% sevin dust works or Tiger Brand from Champion milling in Dunn works. The tiger brand comes in a 10 lb bag for $13 something I think. Just dust the birds and nest boxes with it and in 2 weeks redo.

Gorgeous birds Hollow.

They need a place to dust bathe like a litter box with sand and you can add some diatomaceous earth for extra effect
Dust bath and DE alone will not get rid of mites. That may work for prevention
but once you have the mites you need something to kill them. Sevin dust or
Tiger Brand dust works well and liquid Ivermectin dropped on the back of the
neck will work if the dust isn't enough.

You always have beautiful birds Hollow

It's a week today, I just re-candled.
50 some went in.
I pulled out 22 that clearly never started developing and opened them all up to be sure, and I was right.
12 are looking perfect for Day 7 so I think if it were the 'bator it would be all of them, no?  I have had excellent hatches in the past so I'd be less inclined to think it was that.
I have 8 BCM eggs in there that are so crazy dark I haven't bothered to candle yet, they're still in there.
Then I have 16 more in there I marked with X's as I think they are no good, but not quite ready to pull until I triple check on Day 10.

My thinking would be rough shipping or possibly xrays in UPS or lower fertility than sellers thought?  Anyone with more experience think it may be something else?  If it were a temperature issue wouldn't they have at least started and quit?  The 22 I opened were completely clear, no blood spots or rings or anything like that, they never started at all.
The boxes they arrived in were damaged.

I'm so sorry about that... I know that's frustrating - it sounds like the eggs may have been damaged or maybe not even fertilized. I'm incubating some shipped right now. I'll have to let u know but I heard the hatch rate goes down to 50% by a couple people.
If u need any maran eggs I can get them pretty cheap around here. If u wait 6 months I could get u some wheaten marans and blue and sola ones if things work out :)
