Well, I had a first today. Don't know what I was thinking when I did it, but I put a sumatra egg into the front pocket of my blue jeans along with my keys and cell phone. It made it about an hour before it broke when I was messing around at the computer. I noticed the large, very wet sticky spot when I got up to answer the door. As I didn't remember the egg being put there I wasn't sure what it was. Went to take my phone out and it was covered in this yellow goo, still didn't dawn on me what had happened. It's when I went to get the keys out that I seen the mashed egg shell.

I must admit, I have put eggs in all kinds of pockets, some make it back out, others don't, but I have never put one in my jean's pocket before and hopefully never will again!!!

I have made this mistake several times ... apparently, I'm a slow learner.

LOLOLOL!!!! I've done jacket pockets, but never jean pockets! Hope your phone isn't damaged by the egg!

Does anyone band their chickens?
Not something I've ever done, but just ordered some chicks.
A few assorted light breed pullets for the quickest turn around on egg production and their special they're running of extras of whatever straight run. I plan on growing the random ones out some, picking a few girls I might want to keep, using some males for meat, and selling off some of the extras. I wanted to mark the ones I'm buying as sexed pullets since I don't know what I'm getting and I may have males & females looking similar.
I looked at TSC they didn't have any leg bands in.
I was thinking maybe those crazy bands the kids are using to make those bracelets, probably doubled around? Obviously not loose enough to be pecked and pulled off, but not too tight it's hurting their legs as they will grow quick.
Thoughts???

Edit: Found some on ebay. No idea what the sizes meant so picked something in the middle. Hopefully they'll be here in a normal time frame, a lot I noticed were shipping from China these were from a US seller so hopefully this week. I got the spiral ones thinking I could tighten or loosen if necessary, I guess we will see....

The phone, once the slimy egg was removed, is ok. I normally do the broke eggs in the coat pockets, which my regular coat has many. I have even done a few shirt pockets. In fact I wouldn't count yourself a real chicken person if you aint done this in these places at least twice. But this is a first for pants for me.

Dutchbunny, I have done bands of different types, and tried the ziptie version. They all have their plusses and minuses. I find bands out in the pastures and chicken houses all the time. I've switched to toe punching for the ones that really matter. And now my adults have NPIP bands, which helps, but they can't be read at a distance, and they aren't on babies anyway. The toe punching is working better. I got small elastics such as are used for braces, in multiple colors, to temporarily mark babies, though. I am currently only toe punching certain breeds.

Oh yeah. Shirt pockets. Forgot about those. I guess I'm a real chicken person after all!
