Oh, I had one more question.
I've never had broodies before. There are 3 I can not break. And a 4th but everytime I take eggs from her and put her out of the nest box she will hiss, but then go about her day. The other 3 won't budge.

I have eggs in the 'bator I was thinking about pulling them out and putting them under the 3 that won't break, hoping hatching babies would cure it. It's been a couple weeks and none of the broodies have laid for me at all.

questions:

For the first time hatching, how many eggs do you think I should give to each of the 3 hens?
Since it's so crazy hot out then the bird's temperature should I be worried about the eggs getting too hot?
Do you still candle and pull eggs out? These are mail order so I only anticipate about half being viable to hatch.

THANKS!

Oh man!  Our A/C unit broke in the middle of the night!
I heard some obnoxious noise and turned it off.
Went out this morning and one of the 3 fan blades had 1 of the 2 rivets come out, then it like bent and it's hitting the motor.
So I am going to try to figure out how I can fix it, we don't have the money for a repair man and this time of year you have to wait forever for them to come out and then order parts.
:fl  Hoping some new rivets and some bending can fix it for now.
It's wayyyyyyyyyyyyy too hot not to have A/C!!!!
Trying to google how I can fix this thing myself, I know nothing about HVAC.

I also think my husband forgot today is my birthday  :(
Maybe when he gets to work and sees the date?

Happy birthday! Sorry to hear about your ac. I have a number for a guy in your area that fixed my unit for a very reasonable price. Of your are interested I can give you his contact info

Got up this morning to our 190+ pound Great Dane puppy, Levi, having had diarrhea in his crate during the night. Hubby walked him while I cleaned. And cleaned. And cleaned.

Good morning to you, too.

I sure hope you "little" one feels better. Had to feel so bad. They don't like to poo in theirs sleeping area. You know he had to feel bad!

RF, thanks for posting the pics of your blue sizzel. I keep my polish, silkies, and hamburgs in the same run. Have you ever had crosses in between these breeds? What type of polish do you have? I have buff laced, white, golden laced, and a tolbunt frizzel roo. I am looking forward to the offspring of them sometime in September

I keep my breeds separated, so I have not had any crosses between my polish and silkies. But a cross between them would produce something that should look close to a sultan depending on if anyone has beards. I have never had hamburgs. I have silver laced polish, but am using them in 2 projects that I hope will end up into one project within the next year or two. I am also getting a few tolbunts to play with. Good luck with your group.

Thank you so much!
I was able to fix it yesterday thankfully. It's wayyyy too hot not to have air here.

RF-- How long do your eggs keep in the fridge over winter? You just put them in there in cartons unwashed uncooked?
I have 2 dozen duck eggs & 2 dozen turkey eggs in my fridge that are probably 6-8 weeks old, you all think they're still good to eat?

Dutchbunny, I concur with the rest on the eggs and neighbor. We feed US first. That's why I have them. Sales are secondary. For that neighbor, though, I would try to come up with a dozen every other week for free, and explain that you can't squeeze the eggs out! But I'd do Something since they are in the biggest position to complain about the birds and get you shut down. And I'm paranoid like that. But I only sell large and bigger eggs, keeping mediums and smaller for our own use. If I give away a dozen, it's the smaller ones, not the ones I sell.

Still dealing with a Levi and diarrhea. So. Much. Fun. He seems better today. I even got to go out to lunch with doubleatraining! Picked blackberries morning and afternoon first with CSB and then doublea. Good day, overall. My house is still dirty, but it'll wait.

edited to change "can" to "can't" as it should have been from the beginning.

Thank you for the birthday wishes!
I fixed the A/C so it was a good day!!!  :D

Looking for some advice:

We live next door (and our animal pens are almost in their backyard, the homeowners bedroom window is maybe 5 ft from the pens since their home is right up on the fence).  It's a divorced grandmother, her freeloading daughter who in her mid30's has never once moved out of mom's house yet and in the 3 years we've been here has never had a job, and the daughter's 2 kids (16 & 11) neither have dads in the picture.
They seem to be fine with our animals, even though the ducks outside her window make noise all night.  I go out of my way to not keep roo's or anything to not bother them.  We are massively overly the town ordinance on birds, but none of ours are cramped or anything and they are all healthy.  And quite a few times over the past year I've had animals get in their backyard as with age the fence is starting to separate.  So my husband goes and gets them back and fixes that spot of the fence.  They save money by not running the ac so they always have the windows open, when it's hot with box fans.  The grandma says she likes listening to the birds all night, makes her feel like she's not in the city.  I don't know.

Whenever I had extra eggs I would always give them to them as like a thank you for tolerating our crazy backyard. This Spring I started selling some extras since I had more than we could use.  It really took off and even though I can only accommodate a few customers, I can't keep up with eggs.  4 hens went broody and with the heat egg production dropped like crazy.  So I haven't had many eggs to give them, it's been about 1 dozen a month.  So the daughter comes over last night and says her mom wants to buy eggs from me because she needs a dozen a week.

Obviously, keeping my neighbors happy is a big priority.  And this woman is older, single, supporting 3 other people, and doesn't have money.  I'm not the type of person who would feel comfortable making her pay, but I really don't have enough eggs this time of year to give her a dozen eggs a week.  My husband is mad because he hasn't gotten chicken eggs in a month I don't have enough for him so he gets the quail, duck & turkey (which honestly I think duck/turkey are better anyway).

So what would you do???  Limit her to 1 dozen a week or every 2 weeks?  Would you make her pay?  I don't know, I don't feel comfortable taking money from her.  But it's taking away eggs people would buy to help cover my feed costs which is getting way out of control. And the regular customers who come eat like insane amount of eggs!  I have one person who wants 3 dozen a week, which I can't do.  Everyone gets like 2 dozen every other week, I only get maybe 2 dozen every 3 days sometimes 4 days.  And that's without us keeping any eggs.  I don't know I've been avoiding them since yesterday because I don't know what to do....

Why not ask them if they would like duck or turkey or quail eggs. That at you can give them eggs. Because it sounds like they deserve it.

Anyone else get that wicked storm that blasted through here this afternoon? No real damage done here, aside from the hail stings while I was trying to get my car in! Branches down and light debris is all. Hope everyone else in the path got as little damage!
