How many eggs do you usually give to a first time broody?
I have 4 broodies I can't break I was going to shut off the 'bator and let them hatch since they're not laying right now anyway...
And do you still candle and pull eggs out or just let them do their thing?

Bantams : 6
large fowl :12

Yes, I do candle and toss...a rotten egg is a rotten egg, so you still have to toss the bad ones.

And no brooders to clean.. YAY !!!

Well they'll have less than 12 as I don't have enough for all of them to get that many, but glad to know they can hatch that many.

Maed a decision just now... two roosters gotta go!
Rumpless cross...beautiful bird, blue/red lacing... and a rose comb red laced mix...both 7 months old...nice good looking birds just not in my need now. Hate to see them swimming in grease rather someone raise them out but.....

Top picture is the rumpless...and of course there is another bird behind him showing up as his tail feathers thar are not there!!! SMH!

My Splash Orpington went broody and I put 6 eggs under her, thinking that was too many. Well now I have a buff who has gone broody and she has under her 4 bantam eggs and 6 big eggs under her. Never had a hen go broody until this spring, when all of a sudden five decided to go broody all at the same time...

I grew up on the Chesapeake.
Just went home this weekend for my birthday, my parents always have a crab feast for me every year.
Best part of a June birthday growing up in Maryland

Little town about 20 mi east of Gloucester named Matthews. It has a Nationally protected beach about a mile from him. Hurricane Sandy was so good to them....LOL....brought in sand to the beach instead of washing it out. Then in another direction is a private pier (which they have permission to use) and that's where he takes his family and puts the canoe in!!
