This is my favorite rooster. He follows me around the yard whenever I'm out there.
They got coccidiosis as chicks so they've been slower to grow. I know he's going to start crowing on me soon though and have to go.
He has such a pretty sheen on him, can't really see it from the photo. My husband wants to process next week before we go out of town, but I'm hanging onto him as long as I can.

No offense Dutch, but he really needs to go into a stew pot. If you notice in this picture you can clearly see a hunched back, that's not good for any chicken whether a pure breed or a mixed breed. I also haven't noticed cocci slowing down growth that much.

It's a black freedom ranger, he's a meat bird. I just like his personality and think he's pretty.
We usually process at about 12 weeks, which he's about 10 now I think.
I think it might be the angle because they really aren't that heavy.
All the meat birds were exposed to the cocci when we got the 10 of them so we put the corrid in the water. Lost one, but the other 9 have been doing good. Just not as big as the last freedom rangers.

In person he really doesn't have a hunch like that so I don't know if it's how he's moving, or feathers, but he just looks like a normal chicken. He's the only one with the gold on him though, all the rest are solid black.

Don't let animal control or the cops know you were shooting the dog with a BB gun. Each shot is a count of animal cruelty. Upgrade and shot to kill to protect your animals. That is legal.

You need a fence or lot to keep your birds safe. As long as you do not have this you will continue to lose birds. Get rid of one problem and another will show up.

Didn't know that on a BB gun, but after 14 years here, it's the first dog problem I've had with my chickens. Thanks for the heads up on it. Seriously thinking of fencing in that part of the yard.

Good morning folks

hoping t get done today and I'll be lucky if a few actually get
finished today........it's hot already.

Good morning, CSB and Folks!

Yeah, this group takes it in spurts these days, I think. Especially this time of year when so many are trying to get chores done...extra chores...both before and after work. Even with me out of work right now I'm doing that because of the heat. Got a couple more muck tubs full hauled out of the rabbit/quail barn this morning. Should be finished with that by tomorrow evening. I hope. Maybe Friday morning. Found a wren's nest in there. The cage closest to the door has gotten an accumulation of stuff on it. (Yes, it's laziness on my part. ) Went to clear it off the other day and found a nest, so had to put it back. I'll clear it after they fledge. With luck, they'll do so before the cat gets out of two week's of being crated after her tail got amputated yesterday. Same for the nest in the feedroom. She's been watching that one.

Have a great day! I'm going to have lunch with FVRM today! Lovely way to meet a neighbor!

You're right about everyone being busy! We moved ourselves and possessions to the new house, then I had to make living accommodations for the birds! Been a few long hot days but it is secure enough for them to live in now! Yay!
I hope we get some rain today.. I keep watching storms on the radar dissipate right as they get to me!
